Big fan of the Kneehigh theatre company-if they perform near you, go and see them!! quote] I'm trying to read a book of their collected plays at the minute. A friend of mine said how brilliant they are and gave me his copy. But I'm finding them so hard to read, I'm guessing you have to see them to get their stuff. Strange you mention them I had never heard of them till three weeks ago and now reading your post is the third time I've seen/heard them mentioned since.

It's a bit hard to describe kneehigh. They describe themselves as 'anarchic'; I'd say they're a sort of combination of theatre, musical and circus!! I doubt you'd get a sense of their work from the written page-it has to be seen. It looks like they're doing a production of something called 'Blast' at the moment, but it seems to be only in village halls in Cornwall Hopefully, they'll take it on the road later in the year. Edit: Just checked and yes it looks like they are at the Birmingham Rep Sat 29 Sep 2007 - Sat 20 Oct 2007. Cheers for the heads up Carolyn. Not sure if they're touring with this one.

I've got a collection of her plays and they are all pretty dark and, to be honest, do not make complete sense to me. She committed suicide a few years ago and got a lot of attention for the violence in her work. One of the plays is about a soldier and a woman in a hotel room, that may be Blast. Carolyn

Yeah in the front of their book it say's something about how they began in a barn and everything they do evolves from a sense of play.
Don't know how that will work with Brief Encounter because so much of that story is about restraint.
guess I will have to get myself up to Birmingham and find out.
Had a search on google and it seems to just be a rep/west yorksire playhouse thing but if you hear anything about a tour will you let me know.
Thanks

Yes, I had the same thought-intriguing! As an actor, I'm sure you'd love them. They started out in Cornwall; not sure where they're based these days.

Carolyn Just had a look at their website and their Blast seems to be a differnt story unrelated to Kane. But I love Sarah Kane. Thing is her work is open to such interpretation that it can be brilliant or the most awful experience you will ever have in a theatre. She wrote one screen play which was made into a short with the guy who played Spud in Trainspotting in it but I can't remember his name.

The Sarah Kane Blast is the only Blast I have heard of. I think I've seen trailers or may have even seen the TV piece, I'm not sure. Was it about people living opposite each other? Her book of plays was pretty expensive it I remember rightly, but I wanted to read a contemporary playwright's work. Carolyn

Carolyn You were right sarah kanes Blast is the one with the Soldier in a hotel room. I really like it so I rushed to the Kneehigh website but their Blast is about surfer's and cornish people I think they just have the same name. I think Sarah Kane's short was called skins or skinhead I saw it on four years ago a tiny bit TIE so I should try and search it out. Have you ever been to the Edinburgh festival? there is always at least four Sarah Kane productions on, worth checking out. I can emagine reading Sarah Kane you feel like I do about kneehigh. Like: What's going on? and thinking everything seems over the top.
