The screenings haven't happened yet!
The first screening is tomorrow (Monday 25th April), then again on Wednesday and Thursday.
Hopefully Shane will post a message when he gets back from the festival.

Break a leg Shane. Knock 'em dead..!
I've been telling Harry Knowles at AintItCoolNews.com to get his wide load behind the movie and I think once he's seen DMS the buzz will start amongst the 'fan-boys' in the same way Shaun of the Dead did.
p.s. You need to meet my ol' drummer of the last 20 years, Doink. On camera he looks like a cross between a young Karl Malden and De Niro. He is also a true gentle man (primary school teacher by day and dropper-off of old folks prescription medicine by night) and the biggest GBH and Exploited fan. You would love his quiet charisma. He is a good friend of John Lord, manager of Confetti Studios in Nottingham, should you wish to make contact. You should definitely give him a chance to workshop even though he has never 'acted'. BTW thanks for giving Stuart the part of Herbie. We used to get wrecked together many moons ago when I lived in Shaw. Also, our mutual good friend, Jock Healy ('Matthew King' in Emmerdale), told me last week that it's his dream to work with you so give hima bell and you might get him on the cheap lol.

Hey, how did you go about contacting Mr Harry Knowles?
Perhaps we should all email the chap to get his attention?
Surely Warp Films or someone could send the man a free copy? It could potentially be a very wise move!

I have just sent a pretty comprehensive email to AintItCool. I included a few links to the trailer, some clips, the official website and the DVD Collection interview. Hopefully it will get somebodies attention!

Hey! Aint It Cool has just posted a glowing review for Dead Man's Shoes (written in the sites own inimitable style of course). www.aintitcoolnews.com/display.cgi?id=20062Of course, I would like to think that Workshed and I had a hand in this review appearing... but I very much doubt it as they were covering alot of films at the Tribeca festival anyway. Anyway, it's certainly a good start.

That is awesome HK is behind it....I usually take things on there with a dose of salt (they don't seem as "on it" as they once were IMHO) but this time I know it makes sense.
I remeber the tagline for Trainspotting "Hollywood come in. Your time is up". Well your time is up once again.

Dave,
Well, I've been pestering HarryK since I got home from seeing DMS at Sheffield UGC cinema last October... I thought the way to get his attention would be to draw him towards the graphic novel because he's a sucker for them. I think that Shane's backers at Warp should ask the audience (nicely) who attend the Tribeca screenings to send in their reviews in to AICN.
I've been posting there for five years now and believe me, they can make or break a movie. Look at ShaunOTD/Pearl Harbour.
Don't forget to send stuff to Moriarty/Quint at AICN too. Also make sure CHUD/Dark Horizons get on board. They're feckin essential to breaking a film in the States. Having spent a considerable amount of time in L.A. I'm convinced the movie can be a hit there. Invite DJ's to the screening. They know everyone and are just as crucial as Ebert and reach far more people (as you tend to spend a lot time in a car with the radio on).
I could go on for hours about my net contacts but there's one thing I will say really boosts a movie's profile and that's a good copy on the file-sharing network. It is this, imho, that ensured the survival of DMS and kept the word-of-mouth going around, and after, the Christmas hols. Let's face it. It was on general release at Sheff UCG for one week. ONE BLEEDIN' WEEK!!! I'd told all my friends about how marvellous DMS is and how 'the missis' and I had talked about it for an entire day afterwards. They were coming back to me a matter of days later saying it had stopped screening. I was livid. Then it appeared on the file sharing networks at Crimbo and suddenly all 'the Mexborough lads' were talking about it! I was sooo happy for them all. Now they talk of the movie with the same emotional attachment they have for stuff like Kes/Quadrophenia/Missing in Action. My brother remarked that it seemed very close to home and that he'd been at several 'occasions' over the years where things had spiralled out of control due to drink/drugs and DMS had recalled the guilt he had felt after being drawn in to 'the piss-taking', as he referred to it. The peer-pressure, in those circumstances, can be very hard to resist.
I hope things have gone well in the U.S. BTW did De Niro see the movie..? If he had it would be interesting to know his thoughts what with the sledgehammer nods to Taxi Driver lol. In fact I half expected the slow-motion overhead a la TD after the butchery of Herbie et al etc etc lol. With Richard going 'boof boof (beat) boof..!
Maybe I shouldn't have done that degree in Flim(sic). I might be able to judge things far more objectively.
'Workshed'..!

Oh, and BTW they've all now gone out and bought the DVD of DMS. The one we're all waiting for is Smalltime/Where's The Money Ronnie?/Shane's Shorts on dvd. It might be worth waiting a year though. It will be eligible for Oscars now I believe. We can but dream I suppose. Fingers crossed.

Hey... actually got a reply from Quint at AintItCool. He said thanks for the links that I sent.. which were stuff like.. trailer/clips, The DVD Collection Interview, Graphic Novel pics, this site, and to WarpMart (pointing out the free world wide shipping on DMS!).
Also must say.. hope the Tribeca screenings went well too. Last one was yesterday I think. Here's hoping Shane comes back with tales of fun and meeting Mr DeNiro.

A bit late Dave... but did Shane ever get to meet De Niro? p.s. Is there any way to recover my Workshed account? I can't recall if I ever heard about a Meadows/DeNiro meet up in the end. Just looking at what admin powers can do with old accounts. I can look into it. I can see the email address connected to the workshed account, so email me from that account to prove it's you! haha. meadowspost@gmail.com
