How do you capture in words, what the death of someone you love means to you, means to his children, his family, his friends. The only person I ever knew who had that capability was Gavin. His music elevated my early work from student tat (in the early 90’s) into something resembling art, he’s penned at least one unforgettable song for pretty much everything I’ve ever made and his latest, as yet unreleased songs, are his greatest and have once again become the emotional heartbeat of my latest project. Anyone who knows his work, knows his pain, anyone who met him, will never forget him and for those that saw him play live, his voice remains tattoo’d in their heart. No PA system could contain him, no recording could capture him and I know I will never meet anyone like him again.
Gavin I love you so much brother and I miss you like frikk already. Xxx.

So sorry for your loss, and his loved ones.
A beautiful soul taken too soon. Through him I also got into your films, I know for so many it was the other way around. I have not been able to listen to Beautiful Skeletons since I heard, so pleased I managed to get the vinyl/dvd/cd set. A treasure even more now. I was lucky enough to meet him twice, a more sincere, genuine, gentle man I have never encountered...crushed.

I never had the pleasure of hearing Gavin live. Kept waiting on his return to Glasgow. I found his music through your movies and am so glad I did. Such a plaintive voice and unique songs. As you can see I've only posted on here on topics mainly related to Gavin and his music, and only did so because your site was the only real place you could keep up with Gavin's music. Sorry for your loss. Thanks for getting Gavin's work out there.x

I'm absolutely gutted. But I realise it must be so much more heartbreaking for you as you were his soul-mate. Unbelievably sad.

Gutted. Truly gutted. Any more words would sound insincere.

Shane, so sorry for your loss. I've loved Gavin's voice since hearing him on twentyfourseven and have been following his and your work ever since. I remember talking to you at Richmix about Gavin and how important his music was to me and how grateful I was to you for making him known and always looking out for him. Was only talking to him a week ago at the Brighton screening, I'm just totally gutted, so can't imagine how you and Gav's family are feeling x

Shane, I suggested to Robert White at Guardian obits (robert.white the @sign guardian.co.uk) that he gets in touch with you regarding an obituary and he's said he will. I've dug out some footage I shot of you and Gav on stage introducing the live score in 2012 in Sheffield which is really touching and I'll blog at some point. Attached is a slightly better res of the pic I took backstage at UNKLE. I've got a couple more which I'll add to the blog post I'll be posting about backstage at UNKLE. Very sad times.

Sorry for your loss Shane it must be huge both personally and creatively. Gavin had such talent and I often listened to his music for inspiration and mood setting when writing my own film scripts. He had a voice that will never be replicated, there was something special about his music that touched many people.

Have just joined after reading the news about Gavin. Really gutted to hear it. My heart goes out to his family and friends.
I was really hoping to see him live again soon and was doing a search for gigs when I came across the news.
I first saw him singing with UNKLE at the Plug in Sheffield and have been a fan ever since. He had a real honesty in his voice when he sung and that stuck with me.
I absolutely love the Somers Town soundtrack. I've just bought the Beautiful Skeletons album (my first vinyl) and I don't even have a record player (yet).
Just listened to the digital download of it and feeling that warmth in Gavin's voice is really moving me.
Really enjoyed reading about how Gavin and Shane met at Alton Towers and struck up a life long friendship. It reminded me of when I met my best mate whilst working as a glorified security guard at a museum in Doncaster.

I'm so devastated for Gavins family and friends, I just wanted to pay my respects, my mum introduced me to Gavins music when she first came across Shanes work quite a few years ago. I lost my mum 3 years ago and she adored Gavins voice and everytime I here him sing I think of her and I'm so, so sorry and send my love to his family his children, I had no idea and just searched the website today, being reminded recently with the channel four airing of This is England 90. There isn't much else I can say I just offer my deepest respects and love to his friends and family xxx
