Troll Hunter Big trolls and plot holes but jolly good fun. Mountain Kings were my favourite. I quite like the idea of discussing Troll Hunter plot holes.

I'm awful at spotting these I think. I saw Pom Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold. Really funny, and very clever indeed. Great soundtrack too.

Midnight in ParisTotally charming and endearing piece of fluff. I felt very smug about my basic art history knowledge. I quite like the idea of discussing Troll Hunter plot holes. What were the plot holes then? I'm awful at spotting these I think. I saw Pom Wonderful Presents: The Greatest Movie Ever Sold. Really funny, and very clever indeed. Great soundtrack too. SPOILERSWell...
Briefly cos I'm my smart phone.
1. Why were they allowed to film at all? The officious guy made some token gesture of disapproval near the beginning but did nothing until the end by which time those pesky kids had two HDs worth of troll action.
2. Those pesky kids got over their chum's tooth 'n' claw based death pretty quickly. That annoys me in films now I'm a grown up. Annoyingly. Princess Leia cracking jokes minutes after seeing her home planet being zapped being a classic example.
3. Wouldn't it have made more sense for those pesky kids to go straight to the media once they'd got ol' trio-head on film? What more did they really need?
4. Was that biggun at the end lumbering around in daylight? SPOILERS ENDDon't get me wrong. I did enjoy it. It was fun. The troll facts were very funny.

Briefly cos I'm my smart phone.
1. Why were they allowed to film at all? The officious guy made some token gesture of disapproval near the beginning but did nothing until the end by which time those pesky kids had two HDs worth of troll action. - This is true. I want to see that scene again now. The actual Troll Hunter was up for it wasn't he because he was sick of the job and what they have made him do (the massacre story comes up later).
2. Those pesky kids got over their chum's tooth 'n' claw based death pretty quickly. That annoys me in films now I'm a grown up. Annoyingly. Princess Leia cracking jokes minutes after seeing her home planet being zapped being a classic example. Yeah, but he was a liar. haha He endangered them all with his Christian stink. ;D
3. Wouldn't it have made more sense for those pesky kids to go straight to the media once they'd got ol' trio-head on film? What more did they really need? - Hadn't they been told about the different varieties by this point. They were making a film though so that they could expose the Troll business on their own terms instead of just handing over some footage to expose it on the news. I'm sure they would stand to make more money from a stunning expose documentary, than a one time payment from a news agency.
4. Was that biggun at the end lumbering around in daylight? - No (the sun had either just set, or was about to rise, can't recall which way round it was now. TROLL HUNTER SPOILERS END None of these points trouble me one jot! haha There could be non stop plot holes and I don't think it would have bothered me. I did want to know where he got his bucket of Christian man's blood from though!

yeah any part of my brain that would usually concern itself with plot holes was switched off well before walking into the cinema

Sleeping Beauty.
I loved the aesthetics. I love that slow style of filmmaking, long takes, long dollies etc. I didnt mind the story. I think you take out of it what you take in so I saw it as the pathetic need that men have to cling to sex even in age and in death and how some women can get worth from sex. It's probably all bollocks but that was my take.
I do however prefer a story and this had little of that.

We Need to Talk about Kevin Long awaited film from my second favourite contemporary British director Been looking forward to this for a long time-worth the wait. I'd read the book, so was ready for what is a bleak and troubling story- designed to make the audience uncomfortable and it was difficult to watch at times. Was really impressed with how the book was realised on screen. The book-if you haven't read it-is basically a narrative that takes the form of letters written my Kevin's mother to her husband (the father) and I was wondering whether Ramsey would use a narrator. She doesn't (except for one line, repeated) and instead tells it through memories/flashbacks as the mother struggles to live with the aftermath of events. Tilda Swinton is excellent. The mother character is intentionally ambiguous (an 'unreliable narrator'). The way the character was written and played was spot on, I thought-no attempt to make her particularly sympathetic, but sympathetically enough for the audience to not be judgemental, or to be able to even identify with her. There were a couple of scenes that made me wince-very hard to watch. The real triumph of the film though is how it's shot-all the poetry and artistry of Ratcatcher. The extensive use of red-symbolically-is maybe a shade heavy, but it works. Some really lovely camera work. I'd read a few reviews ahead of seeing it which had been a bit picky about the rather one-dimensional demonic Kevin and I would agree with that, but to the extent that there is again some intentional ambiguity as to whether you're watching Kevin or Kevin through the mother's eyes, again it works. Excellent. Go and see it.

Contagion
A pretty believable imagining, to me anyway, of such an event. The coda ending was a bit heavy handed.
Saw this at The Empire on Leicester Sq. Ginormous auditorium with a massive screen. Good. Big echoey sound. Not so good.
Interestingly, or not, Jude Law walked past us while we waiting to get into The London Dungeon.

Rango - Excellent animation about an acting Chameleon, voiced by Johnny Depp. This isn't your average kids animation. Infact, arguably it is not a kids animation at all. Tones of adult references, and there is a lot of guns, and not only is there guns, characters get shot with them! Not saying this isn't great for kids, I'm certain they'd have a hell of a time. But if you think this looks a bit too kiddy, think again. Especially if you're into westerns. The story is great quality, similar to that of your favourite westerns. Most importantly, this film is hilarious. Depps voice is brilliant, and the animation does superb job of capturing his style of acting. It starts out with a superb opening scene, then gets very barmey, before leveling out as a western story. Highly recommend this one!

With aniticipation for paddy's film I picked up NEDS. Dunno why i doubted it. Excellent film. I can't make my mind up about NEDS. It took me a whike to watch it, because I couldn't get past the first 10 mins. When I did, I quite liked it. It's sort of my 'era' and the portrayal rang true, but I dunno, I sort of thought the bright w/c kid would be a bit too savvy to let some posh folk direct his life path quite so much....liked the final scene. Really liked Orphans though
