i found lost in la mancha to be very interesting but massively frustrating any director who is as creative as terry gilliam shouldn't have to fight so hard to fund and make a film, i was really looking forward to his version of the man of la mancha which is in need of a good film version, gilliams looked good and i still nurture hopes he'll get to make it, but johnny depp (great though he is) is poor casting for sancho panza who's defining characteristic is his obesity

No surprise are resident Quixote liked Lost in La Mancha! It is really interesting to watch such film going down the pan, especially when you get to see Terry Gilliam at work (and going mad with frustration). Brazil is my favourite film ever by the way! I like it to such an unnatural degree, that I can't forsee ever seeing a film I will like more. Ludicrous I know, but I can't help it!

That's a pretty fair statement, actually. It's a brilliant film and one that I have found has gotten better with repeat viewing.

That's a pretty fair statement, actually. It's a brilliant film and one that I have found has gotten better with repeat viewing. Definitely. It's so packed with stuff (story info, visuals, etc) that you are always finding more. There's just something about that film that is so in sync with everything I like in a film, it's just scary. I have the cool Criterion 3 disc set of Brazil. I was eyeing it up for ages and crying that it wasn't available in the UK and thus presuming it was region 1. I eventually realised it was region 0, so would play any where! The second disc has the dodgy studio cut of the film! It is truly shocking what a studio thinks will be good. There's even some terrible bits of dubbed Michael Palin using an unintentionally hilarious ultra-posh accent. It is interesting to see this cut though because you can see exactly why Terry Gilliam was kicking up such a gigantic fuss about it.

I bought Brazil from Play.com about a month ago, along with Time Bandits. Haven't watched them yet. I had my eye on that Criterion one but it was out of stock everywhere and seemed to cost about fourty or fifty quid at the places that did have it.
After I watch it, if I think as much of it as I hope to, I may buy the Criterion one anyway.

It's a great set - that studio edit of the films is laughable - the producer was so deluded - he thought he had the next Star Wars on his hands, eh? The doumentary "Battle Of Brazil" is fascinating, too. The only let down is it's adirect port of the LaserDisc version and could have done with a good remastering, 5.1 remix and anamorphically enhanced picture.

just watched that Hostel - a pretty rough cut by the looks of it, good picture but some of the special effects were clearly in an unfinished stage... few graphicy bits including a very unpleasent eye hanging out that needs cutting off scene

That's funny, I started watching that last night (bought the R1 DVD) and fell asleep. Looked like incomprehensible twadle, but as I hell asleep half an hour in, it would be a little unfair for me to write it off without seeing it all. No wonder it sat on the shelf for two years.

Death Bed - The Bed That Eats (1977)
"Ha ha ha ha ha" is about the best review I can give it. Unfortunately all the laughter is unintentional, unless it is a genuine parody of dumb horrors.. it's hard to tell.
It is hilariously weak, even lacking in any quality gore moments.
It's some nonsense about an old bed that eats people by making yellow foam around the dozy visitors (who all seem to need a good lie down for some reason) who then sink into the bed. All this is being watched by a man trapped behind a painting of the bed on the wall (go figure! It is explained in the film eventually, but it would probably have been better if they hadn't bothered).
It's another fantastic 'so bad it's good' film. It's a close call, but I could even go so far as to say it's worse than Troll 2!

Just watched Domino up until the sex scene (people say keira has the chest of a 7 year old boy but she aint, she clearly has breasts ya know haha) and it was an ok film, I'll watch the rest later but from what I saw it was a good film, not great.. but entertaining enough.
Not a patch on Man on Fire though.

The last part in the hotel plays out like True Romance mark two, but no where near as good.
I thought it was decidedly average. Borderline poor.
