just to keep this rolling do you all believe it is bad to copy CDs and buy snide DVDs?
I do not apart from very rare exceptions by cds, i own maybe 6 but i have 100s on my comp. i dont make any money from them and only copy what my mates have bought but is this still seen as bad in this day and age?
As for dvds i used to get the odd copy but i have stopped now due to seeing a couple of good films ruined by bad copys. I do own however 3 top class copies of films i really like, 21 grams, punch drunk love and leon, thing is as i am a bit of a geek i have rebought them as i NEED to own the proper dvd even though the copy's are perfect.
Just to follow up on something herostar said about why dont i burn the monkeys album off, well isnt one of the reasons they have such hype due to them letting people down load there tunes for ages before the album has come out?

The artic monkeys did get a lot of publicity from downloaded tracks that were put on myspace.com. That actually happened because they gave demo's away to fans at their very early gigs, those fans uploaded the music and other people got hooked, created a buzz and the rest is history.
No one would deny this gave them massive hype, but once a band is signed the rules change.
I have to sit on the "all piracy is bad" side of the fence. Being on a filmmakers web forum, I think we're in the perfect place to discuss it.
As you put in an earlier post, money talks. I can see some peoples point of view of, that why should they pay full whack for a DVD or cinema ticket when they can copy the DVD, or watch a pirate version of a film long before it comes out.
But... eventually the short term saving for some, would become a massive long term loss for all of us.
People like Shane wouldn't be able to make the quality of films we have all come to love, if he didn't have the financial backing. If when he puts his films out, it makes no money because we've all watched it on dodgy DVD, then eventually the financial backing would stop, meaning no more films.
Same goes for bands like the Arctic monkeys. There is alot of shit film makers and alot of shit music around, but for the majority we (if we want to listen or see it) have to pay for their art.
And by the way, Before we get into the ebay debate again, I mean pay the price set by the studios, publishers and bands.
Thats my hat in the ring anyway.

Thing is i totally agree when it comes to films though in the past i have been tempted to watch snides because i simply couldn't wait to see said film but bad quality stopped that. I think it is hard because you have to put the massive money making hollywood machines in with indi film makers like shane and others, now i would love for the execs to lose out but not the skint guy trying to get his film off the mark by scrimping and saving. Same with the music fuck the prepacked pop arses but not the moneys and low key bands.
Oh shit, err ok i just fell in a hole.
I stand by me selling the tickets but i think i may have lost this discussion. Nice little debate though.

whoa wait a min i aint in no hole cause selling the tickets doesnt affect the band at all just other fans who as i said earlier is the fault the tickets are going at such a high price, supply and demand and all that.
I also own the album it is the last album i bought in like 5 years.

Selling tickets doesn't directly affect the band, but we were talking about piracy here.
Sell your tickets man, you should make a few quid out of them, and who can blame you for that. Just to finish this thread, which everyone apart from me and you are probably bored of.
I think (and its only my opinion)
• You shouldn't tout over inflated tickets to other real fans. Its not in the spirit of the band, they priced their tickets at £14, when they knew full well that they could of got £50 at least. They did that for the fans. To me its not cool.
• Piracy of any sort is theft, stealing from people like Shane. therefore by stealing from them, you are also taking away there ability to keep creating films for us.
All that said I will offer to buy a copy of the Shane Ward album when it comes out and make free copies for anyones thats interested. That should see the little fucker off.
Nice talking with you Jtrodreigez. I'll see you somewhere else on the forum soon....

Slightly off topic but being as this topic was originally about the new great white hype thought I'd mention Arcade Fire. Have been listening to their album 'Funeral' all week and it's absolutely fucking brilliant anyone else heard it. Toss up between this and Bloc Party's Silent Alarm for album of 2005
