Gaspar Noé is one of the very few directors who is actually trying to do something new with the medium, battling at the boundaries of the possible. It has obvious debts, but Enter the Void is utterly original film-making, and Noé is a virtuoso of camera movement.
and Little White Lies declaring "Is Enter the Void the ultimate trip? One could argue Gaspar Noé doesn’t make films at all: he makes endurance tests. Yet the feeling this is a landmark moment in cinema is hard to shake." should be enough to convince many it's worthy of a viewing. I've been looking forward to it for a while now.
I had planned to watch this yeterday but ti fell through, later on today now hopefully. Looking forward to it just hope the strobe stuff doesn't send me puddled.

This annoys me. Like I said before, it's just Speed Racer for ponces. ;D
Yes, I'm trying to be funny, but there is a serious point there too. Some people have their heads buried so deep in indie and arthouse films that the whole world of cinematic innovation in the mainstream passes them by. Bold claims are made about arthouse movies when in fact, very similar things have been done stylistically years before in films that are aimed at Happy-Meal grabbing kids.
Very often the mainstream does 'borrow' from the indie and arthouse world, but there are times when it works the other way too. But because it's a giant, money-eating machine making films in the mainstream and not a moody 'artist' putting their 'soul' into it, the innovations are missed by most people.
.. and hardly any of you lot of so called film fans would even contemplate watching Speed Racer. ;D Arty farty ponces!
PS If you watch Speed Racer and think it's pure crap... that's not my fault!
We screened Enter The Void at the film festival. I caught a little bit of it. It was just black and white fast cutting between the two for about 2 minutes. Bizarre.

Understatment. easily an understatement. They say it took him 8 years to make. I said to my friend after "Only 8??"
'The only thing I truthfully know about History, is that people have previously tried to distort it.' - Me, now.

The matrix was never done before. It was the first film ever to use martial arts within your kind of sci fi film, first time keanu was ever chosen as the chosen one which has now been chosen, over and over.
nah i see daves point of veiw though, it works both ways doesnt it? a lot of money thrown into a film can have amazing and ahead of its times qualities to it cant it, or can fall flat on its arse. Same with any indie film, but if an indie film cuts it, you'll probs know about it anyway (or not)
