Oh Andy Serkis was a neighbour of mine, honestly! He brought up in Lancaster but never says he was!! N Wayne Hemmingway, the clothes designer, lived across the road from me i n Morecambe. d
Last Resort - I found this unopened among my dvd's, I'm not even sure where it's come from. It's got Paddy in it so it must be good surely?
I enjoyed the Last Resort-definitely worth a watch.
I also watched Pawel Pawlikowski My Summer of Love a little while back. Paddy is good in it, but I didn't post on it because overall I really didn't like the film. Maybe unfair, because they are really very different films, but because of the subject matter, I couldn't help comparing it to Heavenly Creatures, which is a much better film. MSoL won a BAFTA though, so what do I know.
I saw Summer of Love a good while back but remember feeling that it lacked something. I got onto it because I'd been impressed by Natalie Press in Andrea Arnold's short film The Wasp, which despite having Danny Dyer on board was excellent. The Wasp then led me onto the superb Red Road, (featuring Kate Dickie from Somers Town) which i found thoroughly engrossing from start to finish. In fact I think I'll hire it out from the library later for another viewing.
Criminally I haven't seen Heavenly Creatures but I'll keep an eye out for it too.

I'm replying to you in the form of a spoiler on a film you've yet to see!! Ha. You can read on I think, since it's more on the broad theme of the film, not the specifics of the chracters/plot etc.
*SPOILERS-SUMMER OF LOVE AND HEAVENLY CREATURES*
Yes, 'lacking something' is spot on, I think. I think for me, it was the early reference to Nietzsche that put me off. If it was designed to forewarn us that one of the characters was amoral and saw others as a toy for their own amusement, it was unnecessary. I also think there's been a trend towards exploring nihilism in films-sometimes its done really well (e.g. Naked), sometime not. Either way, its a total turn off for me, so maybe this is just about my own preferences and prejudices. That said, I thought the end was completely crap-that mock drowning attack, which had about as much dramatic impact as watching toddlers playing about in a paddling pool and the total lack of resolution in the story from the PoV of the working class girl.
The only real similarity between the two films is that they're both about teenage lesbian relationships and both have a dark under-current. Heavenly Creatures is based on a true story, which adds to the dark fascination-compelling, but uncomfortabl experience. Also there is a fantasy element to the story that is represented imaginatively and quite brilliantly on screen. Both actresses (including Winslett in her debut film) are absolutely stunning. See it Clayman!
*SPOILER ENDS*
Haven't seen The Wasp, but will now look out for it.
I liked Red Road. Am I right in thinking it's part of a triology? Anyway, the 'follow up' film premiered in Edinburgh this year and was by all accounts disappointing-pity.
The films you cannot wait to see... anything! We've been living at my mum and dad's for the last month whilst we do up our new gaff. Therefore would be happy to see anything that isn't Downton Abbey or Celebrity Family Fortunes. Pity poor me.

meadowpain: I have only one question to ask. Is Mr Meadows a Notts County fan? If so would he like to go the last game of the season, I have a spare corporate ticket. Food etc. Life does not get more glamorous than that, not even in Hollywood!
