Just a quick one....
On Saturday 22nd November at the Islington Mill, Salford, onsuper8.org will be joining forces with the Salford Film Festival to present "Super 8 in a Digital World" a day of workshop and screenings presenting the best in contemporary Super 8 and discussing the merits of our beloved format.
At the 2pm workshop we'll present an introduction to, and an illustration of the possibilities of this classic medium as a powerful addition to the modern filmmaker’s creative arsenal. We show some classic clips and best of what's around in the format to inspire and whet the appetite.
Later at around 7pm we'll present a programme combining some great Super 8 films submitted direct to the festival, the best of Cambridge Super 8 Festival 2008 and the Cannes bakers dozen from this year's straight 8 - all interspersed with some chat and Q 'n' A.
Visit the Salford Film festival website, (http://www.salfordfilmfestival.org.uk), for more information or call 0870 428 0785 to book your free, yes free, tickets!
Cheers!

Very nice - its certainly the DOF that makes the difference and gets away from that whole "on DV" thing. The set up I'm looking at is using screens which can be altered - effectively providing for more grain. Once of got the bits, built it, swore a lot - I'll post here. Hoping to use it for a couple of doc. projects later this year.
Cheers

A simple way to protect your intellectual rights (although I'm not sure this is still valid and I aint no lawyer) is to stick whatever it is in an envelope and seal it with a tamperproof seal (sealing wax) and send it to yourself through the post. When it comes back don't open it - whilst its not protecting your copyright per se, you have a proven date of sealing which would hopefully pre-date anything else if you ever ended up in court and you could produce it as an exhibit.

Has anyone noticed the more than passing resemblance/mannerisms/accent of Big Brother contestant Luke, who is in fact a part time wrestling announcer - and Mark Sherbert in Northern Soul?

Hull to Hornsea is/was a fantastic little film. It was a stop motion time lapse following the abandoned route of the railway from (you guessed it) Hull to Hornsea. It used to be on the long defunct bt.getoutthere site where I used to have some of my films.
I haven't seen it for ages but what I do remember was that the camera went through a lot of the buildings that had been built over the route with some great whooshing sound effects as the went through people's front rooms. It was genius! Maybe shot on Super 8 in stop frame mode - can't remember!!!
It sort of inspired (in a very obtuse sort of way) my unofficial film (since adopted by them) for Stereolab's 'Ironman' - - unsurprisingly shot on Super 8!
