Since Men&Motors disappeared off Freeview there’s been sod all decent to watch on it, Shopping/bidding/quiz channels & watching BB inmate’s sleeping don’t exactly rock my world, so was most chuffed when Film4 started so far revisited a few classic’s & last night after watching one of Mr Diesels finest Pitch Black was ready for the land of nod but after listening to Jason Soloman’s intro to “Dead Man’s Shoes” thought I’d give it a shot. Glad I did the wife went to bed muttering “looks c**p” I was hooked from the start with Paddy’s character & the gritty realism, good guy – bad guy blurring & twist at the end SORTED!!! Will be seeking out Once upon….. & look forward to This is England (what's the jist on this?). New Fan I am.

Haha brilliant, and there I was saying how shit film4 has been now its free. I think I was wrong.
I'd definately seek out A Room for Romeo Brass before you see Once Upon a Time in the Midlands though.

Welcome to the site Mr Pepper!
I second Hyde's recommendation of watching A Room For Romeo Brass. Having said that, Once Upon A Time In the Midlands is good fun, complete contrast in style compared to Dead Man's Shoes, but it's generally regarded as Shane's weakest film (by Shane himself too). But don't let that put you off though.... compared to most British films that appear, it's far, far better. Plus, it could be a good one to get the wife in on the act too!

whats Romeo about? Was never convinced to subscribe to Film4 (tightarse) but so far been well impressed, DMS & Wolf Creek both new to me & the classics, Apocalypse Now,Road 2 Perdition etc As a teenager (from oop North) in the 80's who grew up listening to the Jam & watchin my beloved football team.....will This is England rock my boat?

Man you gotta see "a room for romeo brass" probably my all time favourite film and i certainly dont think you will be disapointed, its the one that got me into shane meadows.
I dont want to say to much as i dont wanna spoil what an amazing film you will enjoy but the jist is two young friends that meet a stranger during a fight in the park and when the stranger comes into there lives there world begins to be blown apart.
It was also the introductary to paddy considine who is probably the best british actor allthough not as well known. The guys acting is fucking phenomenal! ;D

Welcome to the site Mr Pepper. Always nice to welcome a new member and especially someone who only saw my film last night.
I hope you enjoy some of my other films. Smalltime (Very rare and only on VHS), Twenty Four Seven and Romeo Brass are all part of the same tribe. Midlands is OK, but doesn't carry the weight of my other films and is in desparate need of a new sound track (The western one makes me want to poke my eye's out with a butter knife) a digital grade and a bit of a re-edit, but with each new film taking up so much time, it is hard to find the hours in a day to get round to it all.

It is great that film 4 is free but when u are stuck with such film options as "Carry On Dick" and "4 bleedin wedings and a funeral" thats when it gets right up my nose.... "Strictly Ballroom" oh now come on...more brit films and more fresh talent....be cool to see more raw fresh talent coming through....(maybe even a shooting gallery slot) If u could pick any film to go on the list for film 4 what would it be?
