Once Upon A Time In The Midlands was on last night, I noticed. I was gonna watch it, but I found my Midlands DVD yesterday, and I was knackered so I fell asleep instead.

Shane - Would be nice to see a re-edit of OUATITM. You're bang on about the butter knife remark. When i was watching it at the flicks i was thinking 'NOOO, NOOO! What the f*ck is he doing with that god awful Morricone-pastiche and resorting to every spaghetti western cliche in the book'. If only you'd had me on set to say 'NAAAAH!!!'. I would have given you an honest opinion. I think you definitely learned more from that film than any other though. What works and what can be acheived with a tighter crew who'd firstly do it for the love rather than the money as DMS showed. Every great director who follows his instinct has his wobbles: Hitch, Scorcese, Coppola (remember Finian's Rainbow?), Kubrick, Kurosawa. Well, everyone except Dreyer, of course. I would hope that at some point in your career you adapt a Shakespeare play, make a zombie/action/war movie (maybe combine all three genres like in Zombies' Lake). Or maybe have a crack at Stan Barstow's 'Joby' or 'The Goalkeeper's Revenge' (serious)..? I'd love you to make a children's film for that doesn't rely on sfx but still engages. Romeo Brass could have been that movie (but unfortunately discounted itself from a PG rating due to the 'Fucking touch it!' scene lol). What films did you love when you were a kid..? What got you really excited and made you want to find out how those camera thingys worked..?
As i have said before Shane, i don't think you should poll the electorate as to what your next film should be. Just do what you would LOVE to do and what will make you happy. Life's too short.
