Hello people, just got round to getting another one of my films on the internet.. on putfile.com to be precise. The film is called Esurio Admitto and was filmed and edited in fall 2004. It was my coursework for A2 Film Studies, basically we had to make a 4 minute film about anything we want. anyway heres the link: media.putfile.com/esurio-admito-web(copy and paste it into address bar) please tell me what you think, its my favourite film of mine to date.. but still has it's faults. more to come soon!

I haven't watched it yet. I'm wary because... Fall 2004? Is it an American film?

dude.. i just meant the end of 2004.. nov maybe i cant remember the date.. sorry if i sounded american. i hate those ads that say THIS SUMMER... lol. please watch it.. ita anything but american, firstly because i hate most american films, secondly its filmed in cambridge, england, britain with british actors, and most of all its not rubbish like a small majority of american films.. i think i've made my point... so watch it

I don't know quite what to make of it. The backwards/forwards stuff looked really good, but there wasn't much by way of plot. As an experimental thing, it was really accomplished though. Very interesting. Were the "extras" all in on it or was the actor just walking backwards around town amongst passers-by?

Hey that was cool!
Looks like those Coldplay buggers ripped off the concept!
I would love to see some of the normal, forward footage... just to see if it's easier to notice him getting some odd looks! haha. As it is, it doesn't appear that many people took a blind bit of notice.

thanks for the comments guys.. theres not much of a plot.. but its more of an experimental film. the narrative is meant to be perceived that the guy in white is confused at the start, and suddenly a figure (horse mask guy) comes form the crown and slaps him, after he's been slapped everything around him begins to move backwards.. and he walks around to see how everything looks in this weird change of affairs. and then the horse man comes back, slaps him again and everything is "normal" untill we realise that the guy in white (named man) walks backwards when everyone else walks forwards.. so thats kinda the narrative. dialogue simply wouldnt have worked due to the whole backwards thing.
all the passers by were just normal pedestrians, the only extras were the skater, the hot dog guy (same actor) and the guy untieing his shoe laces. the rest were just normal people, and surprisingly not many of them looked at him as if we was weird which was good because it worked better like that for the film.
I didnt know coldplay did anything like this? i havn't seen any of their videos.. partly cos i dont like them and secondly cos i dont have any music video channels... but gits!! I shoulda copywrited it, my film techers said he beleived that a film had never done such a thing in the same way, can anyone think of any film examples that did this? the only reference point i have is the episode of red dwarf called backwards if anyone has seen it? and film wise, aparently in carrie when she is at the grvae yard it was filmed her walking backwards and then reversed.. but it wasn't meant to be noticed.. just look a bit quirky.. where as my film its the whole point.. that we see everyone else wlaking backwards.. anyway i've blabbered on long enough.. anyone else had any thoughts on it? i'll put a link to my 1 minute film soon.

Just realised I was wrong about the Coldplay video. What happens in that vid is that everything is going backwards... but the clever bit is that Chris Martin is still mouthing the words to the track. So either it was a clever bit of practice to mouth everything backwards so that it comes out looking right when PLAYED backwards.. or there was some special effects trickery going on! You can watch it here: www.ifilm.com/ifilmdetail/2478036Click the green WATCH NOW text. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the Red Dwarf reference with the bloke and the sandwich/baguette... being a reference to the cafe scene in backwards and the woman un-eating an eclair. There is another short film I have seen that uses the reverse technique. It's presented as some kind of extreme zen kung-fu... so you get people meditating by lakes and using they're zen state to magically retrieve rocks from the water (which fly out of the water into their hands). I'll try and find a link. Don't worry about blabbering on! I love reading stuff from the people that have made the shorts.

lol yeah that kung fu thing sounds cool, a good backwards technique but i've seen it in loads of kids tv title projects at long road (the sixth form college i work at) its not really the same teqnique cos its a trick to make the audience think it floats and stuff. my film teacher told me the first time they put film backwards was to footage of al brick wall being knocked down, when they played it backwards it re-built its self, they found it stunning. i thought that was interesting.
yeah the hot dog thing is a homage to the red dwarf eclair. i'll take a look at the cld play video.. see what i think they did, thanks for the link.

hmm.. the video was allright.. the ending was the best bit, the rest looked kinda amatuerish, apart from the mouth synching to the words and i definately think he must have sung the song backwards cos at points it looks like hes really concentrating. cheers for the link though, interesting. anyone seen guest house paradiso? well the part where richie pulls eddies nostrills up with those like hook things.. thats actually shot backwards and reversed for the real thing.. and then eddie had to say the line backwards and it worked. oh and another thing for backwards stuff, you know on red dwarf they say (phonically) "ERSKIB" to get a pint of bitter? well try saying ERSKIB into your camera.. get it into your editeing program and reverse it, you'll find that you say BITTER quite nicely give it a go!

yeah i will be at the screening! i dunno when it is yet though :S i'll let yee know in this thread how it goes.
yup very easy, all you have to do is sign up, and then you can upload them like you would anything else (clicking the browse button etc) But the quicktime file DOES have to be under 25mb, so if the file is over that you'll need quicktime pro, or an editing program to compress it i use iMovie cos i'm on mac. they also take the following file formats as well: .wmv .avi .mpg .mov .asf .asx .mp4 .3g2 just as long as its under 25mb, your sorted.
I'm just working on getting some stuff up on google video cos that seems to be where its happening at the mo, the good thing about it is they give you a code so you can have it actally playing on your own web page. the google video process is alot longer though, as they have to approve it first, and they also take ANY file sizes, which is awesome, but it does mean it may take longer to upload. But putfile for now is nice and simple if you just want a quick link to your video. bwown bwead! excellent thanks! good luck with putfile if you have a go mate.
