Hey, that's a great little short you have there. Really professional, and better than a tonne of stuff you see slipped into the TV schedules here and there.
How many animated shorts had you made before that one? How long did it take to make?
I'm always interested in people's short films, even if no-one else is!
Thats the first film I've made, (maybe the word latest in my post made me sound like I'd got a few up my sleeve, sorry).
I love messing with animation but I'm into character design and illustration, So I thought it was about time I brought something to life.
Everything in the film (all frames including backgrouunds, characters etc.) are sketched, scanned then illustrated/animated on my crappy old Imac, so it took quite a while and a lot of scribbling, patient and coffee.
It also was done in my free time so it probably took about 7-9 months in total to complete but the character has been around for a while longer than that.
A friend of mine worked with me on the sound, and recorded me for the voiceover (not bad scottish, with my thick derby accent). So it was a proper homegrown project.
If I have time I'd make more in a series, i.e owl and the pussycat getting shipwrecked, along those lines. But I'd love to get it into a few small festivals, get some more feedback and show it to a bigger audience.
Thanks for checking it out though Dave, I really appreciate it.
This is superb!! i loved it! it looks wonderfully dark, and such deep meaning for such a short film! this is going on my ipod..
you sound like you put a lota work into it, and it has certainly paid of. what did you use to edit? its a brilliant little film, i look forward to the next, post a link to the next one. keep up the good work. animation is so dam cool, i'd do it more if i could draw.. or make decent plastacine models. If your interested in plasticine animation then you may want to get a program called iStopmotion for your iMac, its superb, it would work for drawings as well. i sort you out a link if your interested? i think its pretty cheap
Glad you like the site herostar! It's always good to hear that people are enjoying the site and all it's info. How did you find the site by the way?
As for the short film festivals.... there is one based in Bristol every year called Brief Encounters. I think they have different events and different levels of entry for the presentation of short films (although yours would fit in with the pro quality ones no worries). Oh yeah... this year's Brief Encounters is round about now. I think it's coming to a close sadly.
great, i'll check it out sometime, i dunno if i said, but i have your short film on my iPod! makes for a great watch when i'm a little bored, your style of animation is great! i look forward to more
