i am currently working on a phd about shane... it deals with laughter as an oppositional tool- the dichotomy between laughter and despair.. basically how laughter heals. it looks at british social realism and the realisation of laughter in this genre... put simply... in the 60's laughter was absent in films of the british new wave, yet slowly over the years directors have embraced it as a very powerful representational device... flashes of it in loach. loads of it in leigh... bundles of it in oldmans 'nil by mouth' and so on... but no one has done it as successfully as meadows. Shanes films really do summarise the whole concept i am trying to describe in my work..... ANYWAY.. If anyone who has the ability to put me in touch with shane and thinks that Shane might have the time, inclination, interest to answer a few questions, then i would be overjoyed... Yes, it was a begging letter

Hello anonlytwin, welcome to the boards. Your study sounds really interesting. I don't suppose you know (your post would suggest you don't) but Shane Meadows himself does actualy post on these very forums. So if you post up your questions for him, theres a very good chance the good man will reply.
