That's quality mate. Ol' Tash is a bit like John Shuttleworth Ha ha, and the chap behind the camera (Wiggy himself?) is like his next door neighbour and sole agent, Ken Worthington. Well, maybe not, I just needed to reveal my knowledge of the Shuttleworth world. ;D

The best bit about Ken is the way you never get a proper look at him I remember Europigeon, where John Shuttleworth tried to get his song Pigeons In Flight into the Eurovision Song Contest. Very funny, and a mental ending involving Bruce from The Shadows and Katrina of Waves fame! Wig - the file comes across as a PDF but when I click it open all I get is a blank (?) It's at this point where I wish I'd listened during IT at school, instead of sneakily opening Crocodile Clips and blowing up LEDs...

Only recently got into John Shuttleworth after listening to his latest radio series, John Shuttleworth's open mind, where each week, John and Ken 'investigate' a different paranormal phenomenon! Graham Fellows actually did a Q&A where I work after screening his John Shuttleworth film, It's Nice UP North. Sadly I wasn't in attendance.

Forgive me if this site has been mentoned - but Triggerstreet.com is simply the best place to get your scripts looked at. It's pretty brutal - but if you have a thick skin (which you will need as a writer) go there and upload. You must read other scripts as well, which is actually a good thing to do.
I've written three feature scripts (shot two of them), and countless other bits and pieces over an eight year period. One thing that probably isn't mentioned often, is write with instinct. That is simply the only way to write. Don't just try and make your version of something else (THIS IS SO IMPORTANT) the amount of bloody gangster scripts I see is embarassing. We all have a story (or a few) and the truth is, write that. If you havee an idea, just test it on a few friends. Be clear on your characters, and keep the dialogue real.
A big mistake we ALL make when we start writing is to repeat dialogue over and over. A character wil explain one thing several different times, just because the writer isn't confident that the point has been made. TRUST ME - suggestion is so much better than sign-posting!
Keep it pacy, have a clear start, middle and end. Make sure you have well drawn characters and a story that works. A lot of people find that saying dialogue out loud as they write really helps them. I never do this - it pisses off the girlfriend, but it's always an idea!
Always redraft as well. There are no set rules to this - first script was re-drafted 3 times, second 6, last one, just twice. The key reason is obviously clunky dialogue and basic typos.
A good script is not that hard to churn out. The simpler, the better. Remember my golden rule - guns, action, cars etc. etc. - it all means nothing if your characters are crap.
Cheers - and good luck all.

There's a program you can get somewhere that does it all for you... Found it here - don't worry, it's free Quality bit of kit from what I can see - saves you spending hours formatting a Word document to look all scriptesque (though I quite enjoyed doing that to be honest...)

Is that software all free, flash? I've had a bastard of a time trying to find free scriptwriting software (I use Sophocles on my PC, found a dodgy patch to break the trial restrictions). BBC Writersroom have a free Word template that's quite helpful, though I find Word templates a bastard to install.

Yup, 100% gratis mate. The only downer is you can't change the font colour when you're describing an action - you have to paste the text into Word or summink and do it there, then paste that back into your script. Still, all in all a lot less hassle than doing all the little formatting tweaks yourself. It's a bit like a database in as much as it lets you attach notes to the script about characters, locations etc. Fill your boots!

I've shot Night-Bird (which you canb download for free from bringitgiveitfilms.com/watch+hear.htm ) and I've just made Icharus Broken - which a few guys on here are now in possession of. I'm presently working on getting Icharus to film festivals this year, and will also be holding a screening as well. All invited! Ha ha.
Seriously though - writing a script is something that so many people think about, and avoid doing, for fear of getting laughed at. But I think that if you just write what you feel strongly about, there is nothing to be embarrassed about.

Night bird looks very good for a first film and ill try and watch it all this week. Id love to get hold of the new one so just let me know how and we can sort it out.
You and all the others on here are giving me a well needed kick up the arse to start writing again.

I've mooted around a few copies for free before the festivals to let people know what I'm doing. If you want a butchers at the film, drop me a line. The film is somewhere between traffic, 21 Grams and 25th Hour. Except shot for next to no money, in Derby.
Check out the details on bringitgiveitfilms.com and email me an address to post the the DVD to at se7enxthre3@aol.com
Anyone else wanting a copy of Icharus Broken before we hit the festivals, drop me a line and I'll see what I can do.
Cheers - Tom.
