Finally, after some help from a mate I have a few of my films up on Youtube and I would really love to hear what you guys think.
Firstly - IN THE SOUP - 3'17"
Two gangsters are talking about their latest "hit"
This is the best thing I have ever made - just hoping I can move on after this. - sound slightly out of synch
Second - FOREVER LOVE - 5'25"
This is the first film I made at Uni. Its not usually my thing but I gave it a bash. It think its a nice little short but obviously has a lot of faults - as does the other one - sound slightly out of synch
Third - A COLLECTOR'S PIECE - 10'07"
The first "real" film i made with a crew etc. It was a learning curve. I like this film - really proud of some of the shots. I have reedited it as I didnt like the editors edit and its actually a remake of a little home video thing i made.
Anyway, let me know what you think. I'm entering In The Soup into festivals at the moment, so fingers crossed. If you are a youtube member I'd appreciate a rating - ta
Cheers guys,
SALV

Just watched "In the soup" I thought it was a great little film, the story was good and the camera angles and shots were used well. Definately worked in black and white. Well done mate.
Also watched "Forever Love" thought it was ok but could have perhaps been a little shorter towards the first part of the film but still good.

Wow they give some strong feedback I agree, but any feedback is good even if it is constructive critiscism as you know then that there are people out there watching your films and sometimes critiscism is good as it helps you learn more when making your next film.
I'm gonna put some of my films on there now see how they tear me apart lol.

Really nice photography on In The Soup.
Is the title anything to do with the Alex Rockwell film?

i left some comments on 2 of the films. they are very good. i do think forever love.. as i see some others have said, the start is too long and boring, and i've seen people wake up in films way too many times. but still i felt it was a cool idea, and the twist was cool
in the soup was great, hope it does well in the festivals.
the skull one was kinda funny instead of scary, intentional? i dunno. i still liked it, the crazy guy was a good character

I liked that Collector's Piece one. I didn't really see that it was done as a comedy though Ryd? Perhaps there was some underlying black humour in there. It had a nice style of it's own I thought... although occasionally too dark perhaps (especially in the hallway at the end, where it is bright daylight until we see him on the floor. Obviously it's the shadow of the other bloke, but for me, i think it makes the viewer think 'eh? it's gone dark now' which could pull them out of the action. I liked the pace of it, with the shot of the clock being a cool addition. It was calmly paced, but not too slow, which was good.
I wasn't keen on either In The Soup or Forever Love. In The Soup with all it's sweary criminal business kind of made me take an instant dislike to it! haha that's just my own problem there though I guess. Plus, the bizarrely gory end just seemed out of place. It was an interesting idea, but I don't think it works.
SPOILER!!! How much bloody soup (literally) is it going to take to dispose of everything?!? The eye was just for gores sake... which is fair enough, but the style of the rest of the short would maybe have lent itself to a more subtle reveal of what is going on. I think it would have been fine without the obvious items in the soup, especially after all the hints in the dialogue. Why the hell are they doing that to get rid of the evidence. The joke about 'a bad taste in the mouth' was cool, but come on... someone who isn't happy with the intial killing is hardly going to be up for bowls of man laden soup! haha

Just watched 'In the Soup'. A clever idea, with some nice camerawork to boot. Personally, i think it would have been nice to have seen the two gangsters actually in the kitchen preparing the food abit more naturalistic, handheld maybe (The playing cards thing was ok, but maybe was a little bit too static and so it felt a little bit scripted) so at first we see a professional hit and then at home it appears like a couple of normal blokes making lucnh in a normal household but is weird as it is juxtaposed against what we have just seen them do.
Maybe we should ask Dave to set up a little section just for people to put up their work for all to see? Could we adopt some kind of review system Dave (ie 5 stars, 1-10?)

It is a cool idea, and I kind of thought about it before, but doing it by embedding a video hosted on YouTube or Google Video, directly into the first post in a new short film thread. However, that idea didn't get very far because it seems this message board doesn't allow such embedding of video. Will be a worth a think anyway.

thats a cool idea shane, a very very cool one. I'd personally love it, if theres anyway you could get this idea going dave then you should go for it!
i'm shooting a film tommorow, i'll post it up as soon as i've finished the edit. It's a kinda surreal edit, kinda Esurio Admitto style, if you've seen it.
