hahaha you know me to well Dave.
Back to this thread its nice to see things like this popping up cause unless people start communities like this i think the future of british film making is going to struggle. I mean what makes any money? certainly none of the really good films to come out of britain. Shit like billy elliot, full monty and bloody hugh grants bollocks seem to do ok but just leave the yanks with this fucked up version of what they think we are like and really have nothing good going for them. The brits that are well recieved seem to be known for producing gritty, real life films that are amazing but generally do very little.
looking at all you lot sticking your own stuff up, getting on with it no matter what just generally teaching yourselves the basics i think the future of british film making could be on the up. Even if we may not make much money out of it.
Oh and it is the goverments fault for fucking with the funding or tax breaks or something i watched, seems it is a lot better for us to go over to ireland to shoot.

Well said JT, there are so many talented people out there now doing there own thing, teaching themselves and churning out there own movies on the best kit that they are able to afford, its always great to see someone else bringing out a low budget short film or trying out something new.
A lot of these people (including me) havent had any film making experience or training before and are just happy to get on with it and learn through actual experience, mistakes, peoples advice, etc.
Like you said as long as people keep trying and keep getting new material out there on the chance that they might get noticed by the right people and possibly even funded from somewhere the British film industry will remain very much alive and kicking.
I think its fair to say that someone like Shane Meadows is just what the Bristish industry needs and he has influenced so many film makers on here including me.
P.s Thank god for the likes of Youtube, Livedigital, Myspace and Google as a way of getting films shown.

Yeah, thanks for that. That's pretty much the way we do it, handheld DV cameras in your mates' kitchens, that sort of stuff. But like you say, learning through just giving it a go with what you've got beats poncing about on a course that would cost thousands and teach you nothing you couldn't of learnt from watching a few DVD extra features! Personally, I would like to progress to a more professional level but I don't know if I'll ever be able to afford to. It's the money and the legal bollocks that makes it hardest in my opinion. Nobody "Important" is allowed to read your scripts because there's like a fucking army of lawyers that don't allow anything through. Short film competition applications are a joke too. Do all your actors have contracts? Did you have permission/permits from the local council to use your locations? If you actually followed all this shit you'd never get anything done. I know if I ever do manage to go more pro I'll very much miss not bothering with all this unnecessarily complex legal stuff. We want to be filmmakers, not accountants!
