This has disaster written all over it. I assume that they at least have liability insurance? 14 days is an exceptional amount of time and I hope that someone has the guts to point out just waht they are doing wrong.
I mean £1,000 for food - okay - you may get away with that, but no accomodation funds. Eeek! And how about all the down time? Where are these 35 people expected to hang out??? 14 days will leave a lot of downtime. I see a mutiny on the horizon.
Good luck. And don't forget - sometimes it's better to walk away with your conscience intact than have a piss-poor set up on your CV.

bloody hell 14 days for a short! a lot of full productions are shot in that time. i couldn't give you an answer though as i have never been in that possition but i will bet most producers have had a lot of crap to put up with, i think i'd give it a miss though unless its a really good script and the director has great aspirations.

This is gonna get VERY ugly. The producer is the boss. Not the director. And 2nd AD? ON A SHORT FILM? What? I wish you the best of luck, but I reckon this is gonna be a waste of time.
Food for thought: In Toronto last year, I was talking to a producer who had just finished a film that cost a few million. He was telling me that he gets a lot of short films that are shot in very similar ways to features (such as cranes, 16mm etc. etc.) and his comments were: "Waste of time. Why would you spend all that time and money on a film that will never make money?" After all - this is a business. And his conclusion - the directors are deluded, believing this is the project that will break them into the big time. I shot a film in 8 days, for very little cash, and now Terry Gilliam has a copy, as does David Yates, director of Harry Potter 5. His request as well.
Go do the shoot, use it to your advantage, but with people not being paid, I reckon morale will be low and many will walk.
Good luck man - I'm rooting for you.
