I'm struggling a bit trying to write something, I want something like, Trainspotting, just like 3-4 mates, drugs.. that kinda thing.
If someone could write me something I would be willing to pay.
or does anyone know of any short stories or anything like that I could use?
Cheers.

Hmm.. I have a million ideas on that premise, but can I suggest that you simply take some artistic license and use you're own experiences with your friends?
I'm writing something very small at the moment, about two guiy sfacing the prospect of turning 30. It has two friends and several girlfriends, but it's based on me and my (sometimes strained)friendship with my best mate.
Obviously we have lots of situations being changed, but think about about when you laugh with your mates about old times. There are a hundred stories there.
You'll find the writing a zip and it'll be very personal when you make it.

Have you read this play then? or seen it? it sounds good I wouldnt mind doing that, I'm sure I can add artistic license to it. Just need an apartment though. I'll probably buy that book sometime soon.

You really should try coming up with your own ideas, and get them written down. Of course it's hard, but you will be well chuffed when you get something of your own down on paper. Don't go for a full on script if you don't think you can pull it off, just write down all the ideas you want in the story, see what gaps you have, and imagine how you can fill these gaps and bridge the gaps between the ideas you have. Perhaps you just need some dialogue to get from one idea to another. You could try improvising as a first foray into making short films. Work out where you want the scene to get to, and see if you can improvise your way there. A good way might be to get any actors you know will be in it together, and improvise as rehearsals. Parts of the script may write themselves if you have the actors interacting in a rehearsal before you set off and film anything. Just make sure you are recording it! haha

I'll probably buy that book sometime soon. Yeah, our university library has it, fortunately, so I read it without having to buy the book. The play is apparently changed a lot with every performance, and I think it's a solid basis that you can really make your own. Like these guys are saying, it's better to have your own ideas - but I think "Penetrator" could be a good starting point to build from. Even just the premise, of two mates whose lives are interrupted by the return of a third mate who left town a few years before... And how things have changed.

Dave thanks for the advice I'll keep that in mind but right now the only two story's I have are as follows...
Guy in Gas Mask and Boiler Suits massacres a group of junkies in a house (too much like DMS)
and the other is about an angel coming down from heaven to stop his wife being raped and murdered, by doing this he is sentanced to hell. The devil comes down to get him but he doesnt leave without a fight! or maybe he does I havnt decided.
Maybe I should make them first... but I definately want to work on something like the penetrators, I could never write something like that but want to make it if you know what I mean.

That angel idea is a good one.
Ideas are bloody hard to get right, but it's a case of knocking them back and forth for a while in your head.
I'll be posting video blogs of my experience as an indie film maker soon. PLEASE NOTE - I'm not trying to preach, just share some of my experiences, so I'll let you know when I'll be starting them.
One of the best things you can do is share ideas with friends and see what the responses are like. If people remember what you said 5 mins later, it's a worthy idea.

Fuck it, I'll make the angel one and yeah that'd be cool I'd like to hear about that. Edit: I'll see what I can come up with myself before forking out for that book, now I have a bit of a boost.

Nice one man. Go write it. I'm sure that if you get stuck with the ideas, everyone here will be happy to advise.

Just got the perfect idea! make all of those into one film! I'll have the junkies, then one of em dies, goes to heaven, watches his gf about to be raped and murdered, kills the guy and saves her, the devil comes down to get him, but him and his mates try to stop it, so it'll turn into a sort of slasher flick. Thats my movie!!!!

Hey Freck
I thought the Angel idea sounded pretty cool but to pull it off well you would probably need a bit of budget to make it look kind of realistic and effective. I think maybe try something easier for your first film mate. If you do wanna go down this route what kinda ideas do you have to kind of make the devil look effective?
Maybe go down the slasher movie route but have the charecter being like a real person if you get what I mean rather than a devil, alien, demon etc
I found the easiest kind of thing to start off with was something kinda real lifish where you can get it made on a tiny budget or with no expense.
Good luck with it anyways mate and have some fun ;D

hi there, if your new to this game and starting afresh get yourself a copy of adobe premiere, i know it can very very in depth and complicated but it is fairly easy to jump into i thought. the reason i say this is the amount of playing about you can do with it, making plane old footage look creepy. i have just finished my creepy short film entitled tibb the familiar, it is about a 10 year old girl who is tricked by a spirit into giving up her soul, i have done lots of cool effects especially with sound and i think im onto a winer with it. i will put it on here in a day or two, i am just waiting for a friend to finish the score but when it's on you'll see what i mean about using effects to make a film look creepy.
