At last it's finished. Please find a spare 20 minutes (!) to watch this effort. I hope that most of you find at least a couple things in it to be mildy amusing. It's a documentary about the forgotten secrets of Bath Abbey, and as such you should imagine you are about to watch a factual documentary. If you're sat watching the first bit bored to tears, then that's kind of the point (to evoke the feeling of a crap documentary).... stick with it though, you may enjoy where it goes! Plus there are 6 distinctly seperate sections to the film (including the intro), so it's not all one big yawn-o-rama, it's 6 smaller ones! ;D Even though it is twenty minutes in length, it still feels a bit rushed and slightly garbled! I've also just noticed that there are a few ropey sound edits where the voice-over is concerned. I look forward to any comments. There's plenty in it to talk about that's for sure. you may even want to ask some questions afterwards! hahaha Good luck! video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=2580896652524363389There maybe spoilers below!

excllent stuff dave! B.A.Ps Investigators`! LOL and "A GHOST DREW MY NAN" were laugh out load moments for me. good job mate. Made me a bit dizzy with all those ken burns effects, but it is really good, genuinly funny. For people who find it boring, just listen and think! and it'll be funny. Nice one dave!

I just had to look up this Ken Burns of which you speak. No idea what you were on about... although from the 'dizzy' comment, I had a reasonable idea.
The trouble with making this, was that I could write some bizarre nonsense, but then I had to somehhow bring it to the screen. The only way to go with most of it was photoshopped stills!
The books of Professor Tobin were real props! I printed glossy dust jackets to put on some old hardbacks!

ive just watched half of it, up to were the big foot was seen in the abbey, are you sure that wasn't real! very very well done, i will have to watch it all to get the humour fully as it seems to slowly get more farsical if thats the correct word, on a technical note, did you use premiere? some of the key framed photo shots could do with cropping to fit in with the widescreen format for tv purposes, but i will watch it all when i get chance ive had a bit to much claret to really judge it but i bet it gets better as it moves on. well done, is that funny accent your voice over lol!!!

Glad you liked the bigfoot photo! haha. I thought the Abbey/Scotsman image was better myself! It was in Adobe yes. I like the way you say some of the images could do with cropping ".. for TV purposes". Errrr like that's going to be an issue. I only ever made it with the intention of it being on the web to be honest. I know what you mean though, but I thought I had been careful in that respect. I actually created two images of solid black, and positioned them exactly where the bars on the widescreen image were. So, when I was messing with a photo, the two black bar images were masking the picture outside of the widescreen image. It was a pain in the arse! haha Funny accent?

sorry i didn't realise it was just for the web, i thought you would probably export it to dvd for watching on your telly. im just gonna watch the rest now, it is very cleanly edited, i personally also love history and i like the idea you have of twisting it that way, very clever!!!

It's cool, and has to be done for these types of films. I just know i would have preffered a bit of variety in the types of footage. But as you say, it's hard with this kinda film. It worked very well though it was kinda believeably-outragous if that makes sense. What i mean is it all seems like a normal crappy documentary, and the secret stories are explained in such a way that are REAL which just makes it funnier in my opinion. I don't know if that makes sense, it did in my head!

I don't know if that makes sense, it did in my head! That's good to hear. I always intended to make sure that all the odd subject matter was treated as though there is no question this actually happened. I intentionally steered clear of anything too 'in-your-face' and also didn't want to clown about with silly voices, etc. I know what you mean about the 'realness' making it (hopefully) funnier. It doesn't always work and not everyone likes that style, but when people do, they seem to enjoy it more than someone shouting in a silly voice that "Bath Abbey is made of jelly!" ,etc. Wiggy.. I think I will have a watch of it on a telly and check out how ropey some of it actually is! haha. The finished edit is pretty much in DVD quality, so it would be stupid to waste it I guess. Thanks for the comments!

Great film my man! I didn't think it felt long at all, it raced by, Very inventive filmaking.
My favourite bits were the Rave in the Abbey when the church bells suddenly kick into time with the drum and bass and when the wacky professor got uncovered as a fraud, I thought the commemortive dog plate/UFO idea was inspired.
Really nice touches throughout Dave. Making a twenty minute film sourced entirely from photo's is not an easy thing to pull off, but you did it baby, well done!

Thanks for watching it Shane and taking the time to leave some comments! Glad you liked the plate/ufo bit. I think that is still my own personal favourite bit. The thought process behind it started with an idea of the UFO being revealed ro be just a simple plate. This then left me thinking "well that's not very funny though is it?"... so tried to think how a plate can be made to funny.... and along comes the idea of those dodgy 'collector's edition plates' you see advertised on the back of the Puzzler, etc! haha
The rave music is by me. I had the idea of the Abbey bells kicking into the rave music quite early on... took me a while to get it sounding how I wanted it. The second bit of rave music (when the second poster spins onto screen) is also by me.
By the way... when I originally thought of the concept, it was just going to be about the raves and nothing else. One day I had the Flying Scotsman/Abbey image appear in my brain, so that made me think... "perhaps I could do a few ideas".

told you it was v clever!!
I reckon you could make an interesting little movie about any random subject if given Dave. it seems to me you love the whole technical process, and are good at invention and detail. Thats the difficult part!
the rave 'bells' tune reminds me of a track called 'Tubular bells' i used to rave to in the hacienda, brilliant, everyone used to go mad when it came on, check it out.
