I'm a bit undecided to be honest.... I reckon I'll be there and I'll wish I had my video camera.. but then I'll have to carry it.. hmm I'm not sure.

And what would you do with your cameras when we go into the theatre to see the film?

I don't know really to be honest. I reckon if it's only a small camera and can fit in your bag it might be OK. But then they might be really strict and check bags because of it not being released theatrically until next year?

Salv, any ideas for what i should be filming at LFF at the meet up? Hyde, are you bringing your camera too? Get some nice establishing shots of things like the Odeon, Leicester Square... train stations, tube trains?? hahah just a load of things! Just had a thought that isn't directly related to the film, but I hope there are some This Is England posters to snap some pics of for the site!

You'll get into the foyer but there's no way you'll be able to film in the auditaurium, ad hoc - maybe if you contact them but I reckon you'd really need someone of Shane's stature to get them to allow you to do it - it's so much easier for them to say no, mate.

Hmm I certainly don't want to film in the auditorium, but will they check bags? Cos i'd be absolutely gutted if i wasn't let in.
I'm sure i'll ghet some good shots of leicester square, the odeon etc. I'd like to get some shots outside of the cinema, maybe in the foyer.
I also wanna do some filming at the meet up, see how people are feeling before the screening, that'd be cool.

Hmm - permissions eh? How do you go about that then I wonder?
Yes they are really strict at festivals, they're really strict on filming in London full stop. No problem of course with hand held dv on public land, provided its for personal use etc.
But the thing you need to realise is that if you're filming stuff which you might eventually want to do something with (re Salvador's doc idea etc), you need permission up front to film, because you'll struggle even more to get it after you've shot it, if that makes sense.
And I doubt you'd have the camera out long even in the Odeon lobby without being asked to take it away, or on any private land for that matter.
Also, the festival organisers take careful steps to ensure that all filming of the event is stage-managed.. not that they're some kind of gestapo I'm sure, but you'll note that at such events even the mainstream press etc are only allowed in certain pre-arranged areas.
So the only way to do it professionally is through the legitimate channels - but please don't all rush to get this permission, if you're serious about doing a good job you need to centralise, do everything through one Maniac, be clear about exactly what you want to achieve and when.
Please note though, the last thing I want to do is put you maniacs off! I don't want this post to read patronising, it really isn't meant to be at all! All I'm saying is to maximise the chances of filming some great stuff, and also to maximise your enjoyment of doing it, it helps to do a little bit of preparation and research beforehand.
All the best.

you could stage a film festival, go to some backwater cinema were the old women behind the counter couldn't give a shit and film there, all meet up there and act out like it is the real thing, cut in a bit of royalty free stock footage of london town and bobs your uncle!!!! ps snatch a few posters and such like from the real thing and then put them on the walls of the shitty cinema (genious)

Hey guys,
Patrickcoyle and Rich are right. This doc has grown a bit and if we want to do anything serious with it we need to make sure everything is cleared and able to be used.
Leave it with me and I will look into things.
Please just make sure that any short films are copyright free, that means that there will be absolutely no problems.
Thanks, keep coming up with ideas and get shooting those interviews. This could be great!!

QUESTIONS!
Just wondering what picture ratio the film is going to be in so that everyone knows to film there bit in the same way. I myself have a fondness for 4x3 full TV squareness! Most cams will either do that or 16x9 widescreen.
Also.... do you think that perhaps one or two people that would like to contribute but don't have a minidv cam could do something on their video capable stills cam... or even a mobile phone! Could make for some interesting results in the edit, and would be another pointer to the whole community ethos and inclusive attitude of the site??

Dave,
The film will be in 4:3. All cameras can do this and so it'll keep it simple.
EVERYONE SHOOT IN 4:3
I think people should be as creative as they like. We'll see how it comes together, what can and cannot be used etc. If people dont have access to a cam and want to be involved give me a shout and we'll see if there is someone near you who could do the filming.
