Was bored Wednesday night so after watching Sin City made a little film inspired by it. Click on the link below if you wanna view it.

(SPOILERS) I've not seen Sin City so can't really do you a comparison, but that was a tight slice of cine there, Daz. Nice touch at the start with the cack-handed Zippo thumbery... they always make it look so sleek in the films don't they. That said, you're obviously pretty handy when it comes to CQC and shadow boxing - remind me never to spill your pint The moves made me think of that coked-up nutter from The Rules Of Attraction, the one who gets James Van Der Beek in an armlock... What was that shot you did out of the white bottle? Going by the way you necked it, it looked like cod liver oil or summink. Grim The laying out of the murder tools was done nicely; if you set it to some 60s crooner music you'd have a nice little homage to Gangster No. 1 there! Nice idea about using a brush to interrogate someone, never thought of that before. The gunshot bit was a bit patchy, I thought, though you could probably straighten that out in the edit if you wanted to. If you've got a starting pistol and want to make it look like you're really reacting to a bullet wound, get your mate with the gun to partially cap the blowhole on the replica and jam a small nugget of Blu-Tack in the end of the barrel (that is if it's one that doesn't use a sliding magazine to hold the caps). That way when he pulls the trigger, you still get a bit of muzzle-flash but you also get 'shot' with a small dollop of something soft. Do it right, though, or it'll be Kidulthood all over again! Remember: you don't have to get hit in the head or chest to die from a gunshot... though that said, you do a good job of croaking it at the end of the film. Did you write all that monologue yourself? (I don't know if it's lifted from Sin City or not) If you did, then top marks! Must've been difficult to record all that in the accent. There were some nice hooks there. I liked the line about 'muscle dwindling into fat', very slick Went well with the Van Damme music. One thing I will say is that I thought the opening could do with a bit of a trim cos it felt like it was dragging a bit. That could just be a personal thing though; I always find that if you're making something less than ten minutes you don't really need to do a Cronenberg and have an isolated intro sequence. Other than that, very good all round. You should market it as a more feisty B-side of your B/W Bringing War Home effort; I think they'd both sit very nicely together on a potential showreel. Have a cigar ;D

COOL very good dazza, nice to see your using a tripod, the shots in front of the garage door looked effective and the narration was good. i think the violence let it down a bit as it didn't seem... well... violent! plus the speeded up footage didn't work for the violence it looked a bit like a comedy like old laurel and hardy footage and the gun shot scene could have been cut better, maybe a few takes from different angles, but overall it was a nice little short that kept me watching. well done pal

Another good un! What I especially love about Mr DazzaB's work is that he often says it was done in a day, or the night before! It's amazing then that these films are better than most amateur and student stuff that no-talent chumps have spent months toiling over.
I agree with Wiggy about the sped up violence.... as we all know from Benny Hill... sped up film is funny! If anything, you should have slowed it down. That way it disguises some of the 'stunt' punches to certain degree, plus you can also keep the slowed down audio. We all know that slowed down sounds are sinister and disturbing, which would only aid the scene.
The other thing I like about this film, is that you are harnessing the buzz you get after watching a good film and putting it to good use. It definitely reminded me of seeing a great film as a kid and then really feeling like you want to act it out, or be the terminator, etc. That 'buzz' really comes across I felt which is a good thing. It gives the film energy.

I actually watched this last night!! went onto youtube and because I was subscribed it showed up... I agree with all the above points I think it could do with some fine tuning but its still a decent short. I love all that dialogue about angels and violence Glad to see another short by you mate its been too long and I look forward to the next one.

Great film daz!
i agree with all of the above points, certainly the slowing down one. I'd also say you need to cut a lot more, i just felt some of the shots were way too long to hold my attention. On the shoot think about just takin random close ups, like during the fight bit, you coulda got a close up of a knee going into the guys stomach or somthing, slowed it down and cut it in with the rest.
Other than that, great stuff, the voice over was superb. woop

Hi guys, thanks for all your comments, all good valid points, I actually made a few versions one with the fighting at the end normal speed and not speeded up maybe I will change the versions round then, I didnt realy know if the speeded up would work or not.
Flash, it was just an empty bottle of parecetomal mate. I did write the actual monologue myself, I just kinda used the idea from Sin City of a women being killed.
I wanted to use more angles and shots but found it hard as I had to be in the film to kind of get everything together, I prefer sometimes being behind the camera as I know exactly what I am shooting.
I'm making a comedy hopefully this week, it will be nice to do something funny again and light hearted ;D
