Well, I went home to Blackburn last weekend to a family do and to visit my parental units. Was nice to see everyone until my auntie got pissed and entered another realm within her own mind where it would seem it is fine to punch her own mother in head. Woke up the next morning with my Dad enticing me downstairs with a milky cup of coffee and the promise of showing me a family holiday video shot 10 years ago but only recently re-edited. "You should see it now lad, your mate Steve Meadows would be proud im tellin ya!" He exclaimed. It was shit. Shaky, noisy and my mothers breasts were featured way too much. I tild him it was shit too. (in the nicest way possible). "Right then" he said. Ill show you some proper stuff. "Dad, ive really gotta get goin, ive got a lot to do" I insisted. He disappeared upstairs for a good 6 minutes but when he came down with super 8mm projector, a screen and a box full of film i took notice. To cut a long story short my Dad used to direct and act in Short films with a group of about 6-7 close friends. They used to edit traditionally and do everything by hand. In the 24 years that I have been alive he's never once mentioned any of it and What he showed me made my jaw drop. The films made me think of our very own Mr Meadows instantly; wigs, daft accents and most of all, mates having a genuine laugh! I am currently looking into trying to capture the films from 8mm so that I can upload them for everyone to see. Does anyone have any info or advice on this matter as I have no Idea. Ps. took some photos of 'my old man the director' and ya can see em here. i45.photobucket.com/albums/f64/bwownbwead/framP.jpgi45.photobucket.com/albums/f64/bwownbwead/popsDirector.jpgi45.photobucket.com/albums/f64/bwownbwead/8mm.jpgi45.photobucket.com/albums/f64/bwownbwead/popsMain.jpgThankyou! See if you can move it now. Would be interesting see some 8mm short films! You seem to have to rely on weird little shops to convert 8mm to VHS or DVD.

They sound great Vin, Would love to see em! The pictures of your dad are great too, he looks like a handsome version of my Uncle Chick. He certainly looks more like a Director than I do! I have recorded super 8 off a white wall in a blacked out room on a camcorder before and it turned out pretty well. There are still people out there who transfer stuff but I think it's not much more advanced than the above technique. If your projector has a sound output, you could lay that out separately and marry the two back together in Final Cut pro or the like. Also (without wanting to bore everyone to death) If you can get it into Final Cut Pro, the new studio version comes with software called colour with which you could go a bit deeper on the restoration front and bring it back to it's former glory. We did something similar on DMS on the super 8 footage at the front end and it made a huge difference.

I know what you're saying Vin, I met up with a mate for some lunch in town last week and we concluded that the town centre was in the worst state we had seen it for years (although some of that is down to the proposed new development). All the other shit as exposed on Panorama doesn't make the place feel any better than it looks either. Having said that it's my hometown and I love/Hate it with equal measure. Acid House parties, 7th Heaven Scooter Club, Legendary Soul Nights, first kiss, first fight, all memories made in Blackburn Anyhoo, I digress, good luck with the films, sounds like your old man could be the old Steve Meadows indeed !! ;D

As I was born and brought up in Blackburn for 19 years I also have respect for the place cus its where my roots lie. I just saw the place goin downhill in many respects and thats why I decided to move away. When I go back I feel at home and the majority of my good friends live there so its usually quite nice to visit for a weekend or so. I just dont think I could stay there full time.
Where abouts do you live?

eee just thought i'd chip in with how crap b/burn is, i live near ewood so at least i have somewhere to worship ha! seriously though, some good things coming from blackburn at the moment on the film front, i'm half the ways through a production at the moment which is looking very good indeed for a cinema release, (no joke), just got back from manchester about an hour ago also after seeing one of our actors in a short film screened at the corner house cinema. it is a grim place to visit though, especially the town centre. also my best mate and co filmer is a teacher at st mary's

Im definitely gonna capture my dads films and get them into digital format somehow. Spoke to my old man earlier on today and he said that he's already tried recording the film while its playing and it didnt turn out good enough. Im gonna give it another try though cus' knowing him he will have projected it onto smoke-stained florally embossed wallpaper! I own a multitude of programs which would aid and allow me to boost colour and contrast etc (one of which is Final cut). Im looking forward to showing everyone on the site. Cheers again Shane, Vin
