My new character 'Alan Beggaritt' which is my spoof on the 'Talking Heads' series by Alan Bennett which I am a huge fan of... I hope that that comes across in my vid rather than me be seen to insult, it's my tribute to Alan's excellent work - plus my excuse to do my (passable) impersonation. Anyhow, here's the first one which I done did: "The Pure Filth Monologue!"Psst... don't worry - it's NOT filthy - I don't do that type of thing! Here's another one "The Narnia Monologue" - I thought that it would be surreal for Alan to talk about looking for his dad's 'two tone' cardigan and ending up in Narnia... what made me think of these - blame a cheap DVD shop in Wigan where I bought the BBC "Chronicals Of Narnia" 4 DVD boxset for only £4! Cheap as chips and an excuse for me to enjoy a kids telly show and then 'spoof' it! N.

Hey up!
I started watching the Narnia one last night... got about 2 minutes into it, and thought, "Why am I bothering to watch this?!".....
.... not because of the low standard of the material (which I enjoyed muchly), but because the video is just you... taking. Yes, albeit with glasses and an Alan Bennett impression, but I just minimised your video window and went about other web activities with your audio still playing.
Anyway this is when it suddenly occurred to me... why don't you make a podcast! When I was just listening to the audio, I was actually getting more out of it than if I had sat there just watching you talk for however many minutes. It was funnier I thought. I found I couldn't help but picture Alan Bennett in my mind as I listened (which is down to your pretty decent impression). What do you think?
I think many of your videos might work better as just audio, so a podcast of various sketches might work wonders. Ranting Reggie for example... you would only need to see a picture of him once to have the visual image in your head. It could even make the random placement of the sticking plaster more amusing as you could describe any part of your body, rather than only being able to place it somewhere on your face for the benefit of the camera. Podcasts would of course make the low camera quality irrelevant too.

Cheers for the input there Dave... yep, you're right, there's nothing 'visual' about this as such... and like most monologues, it would work just as well on audio. Thing is - I've not a clue as how to do a 'podcast' or release stuff over the internet via audio - vid. and youtube are pretty easy to do though - if you give us a bit of info re: how to do a podcast - what would I need other than a mic? What sites support? Do they get many 'hits'? Thing re: the 'just me talking' - that's how Alan Bennett's monologues are done on telly - one person, minimum props (often just a chair... maybe a table lamp etc.) that's what I was trying to do... but you're right - audio would work just as well. ANy info. as to how appreciated. N.

errrrr.... I have no further pearls of wisdom on this to be honest! ;D It was just something that occured to me that could work for some of your stuff. The portable nature of the MP3 is also a boon for commuters wanting to liven up their trips to and from work. I have plenty of podcast fun during my commutes! With YouTube you have to be at a computer so isn't as flexible.... but no, I don't know how you would promote such a thing.

Ah okay - I'm not well up you see - it took me all my time to manage 'youtube'. I'm happy to continue to do these on here as it's easy to do - the pic. quality is rough, but sound ain't too bad I reckon - plus I kind of use it as my 'Comedy C.V.' if you will - but I wondered if 'podcast' stuff could reach a bigger audience. If anyone knows - is there an easy way to basically transfer a 'youtube' vid. to an 'audio' file then I could just convert the existing stuff I've done - easy. Mantime though... I've another "Alan Beggaritt" monologue to upload, and my tribute to Alan Bennet's "A Chip In The Sugar" - will upload in a day or two and post here. You've been pre-warned! N.

My favourite one was always "A Cream Cracker Under The Settee"
Not sure the year that first Talking Heads was screened, but I'm pretty sure it was seeing that which made me realise how great writing needs no visual bells and whistles to make it work.
I have thought about making a podcast before now. I think I did a thread about it ages ago. I may start to think about it again!
You don't ever edit your videos do you? Are they the files straight from the camera phone that are uploaded to YouTube? If you do use any kind of software, then there is very often the option to just save the audio as a new file. I enjoy editing... not just video, but sound aswell. If you have any more inclination to head in the podcast direction, then I wouldn't mind helping out.

Hey Chew - if you have a Mac (or access to one) and has Garage Band on it, you can make a podcast through that. It's easy as anything.
If you are going to go that route, you'll need to upload it to a website (not sure if anyone host podcasts for free), but you can link them in directly to iTunes for anyone to download. Of course, there is a teeny bit of tech know-how needed, but your audience potential is HUGE (and like Dave says, you can take them anywhere on a MP3 player).
Breezy and easy but will take a little time to get your head around if it's all new. I'm with Dave - I think healthy and fun monologues would work. And you can get a decent enough mic for £20.00. Slap a few funny snaps on your podcasts and you'd be well away. Certainly something worth thinking about.
Tom.

I've had my spends for the month and they've al gone to George... not a local gangster, I refer to Asda... had to get new threads for m new job (well, I'm not a 'Top Man' so ain't spending there - anyhow, George is a dude, so I'll stick with is quality gear)! Anyhow - where was I? Oh aye, for the time being I'll stick with 'youtube' because it's easiest to use... plus on reflection, Alan Bennett's monologues work best on the screen - although minimalistic and even spartan I reckon they work excellently. If mine at least do 'em justice, then I'm happy. If not - I'm still happy - it's just others who view who aren't! N. P.S. 2 more vids ready to upload in a bit - will put here when I've done 'em
