First of all I would like to congratulate the entire cast on some phenomenal performances for a group of youngs uns. Standout shows from the boy Turgoose, Stephen Graham and the ever subtle Andrew Shim and Vicky Mclure
I thought the film was great, capturing both the essence of skinhead culture and equally painting a picture of life in small town council estates. Coming from one of the many estates in Northampton that really spoke to me.
I also really liked the pointless graffiti "maggie is a tw*t" or whatever it said and the way the gang spent most of their time just hanging around doing nothing (in between smashing up vacant houses)
I think a lot of people will be surprised when they see the film, a lot of people tend to see skinheads as Chelsea supporting NF loonies marauding about London and forget that sub cultures like the skins penetrate many different areas of Britain. i.e. the specials in Coventry. That is why the title 'this is england' is perfect. Meadows manages to capture the real england yet again
The film was in parts hilarious, gripping and terrifying and really makes the audience think. Which i think is the best feature of Meadows work.
All in all a job well done. It is great that Meadows and his team have given a voice to small town england and long may it continue!

SPOILERS! Looking back on it there were great performances all round from the cast. Shaun's mum was played very sensitively I thought. That scene in the shoe shop was classic with the assistant trying to pass of the dodgy boots because they were from London. Also the girl that played smell was great. that scene where she is getting off with Shaun and her makeup is all over the place, over her teeth and all sorts. Then she utters what I'm sure will come be to be scene as a classic line from the film 'do you want to suck my .....' haha

Hannah had retired from acting and was teaching at a school in Leicester when I met her through Stephen. She is just as funny in real life and makes the best Sunday Dinners outside of one's own mother!
She has already done a BBC drama since we finished shooting and has the acting bug again so you should be seeing a fair bit more of her. ;D

Its funny how mums always point out the cheapest most rubbish clothes when they take you shopping. My mum told me that Nicks trainers were the same thing as Nike but I soon found out from my mates that they weren't. The bitch : P
