Well, the British Film industry is flourishing from my end and most of my freinds are investing in small Terraced properties and getting very good deals on their mortgages. Robert has made some pretty seminal film and TV but 28 Weeks later isn't one of my must see films of 2007 to be fair, but it has made me think... Dead Mans Shorts?

"poor quality penis" (consider this expression stolen delarge) He's either bitter or ignorant or both... i have a lot of time for trainspotting... but the full monty?? Its insincere bullshit- isn't it just sanitising poverty and unemployment? i would put dms, rfrb and tie above both of those... But it seems that what he's pointing out is that those films were seen by a larger audience. For as good as TIE (and DMS before it) and London to Brighton are, they aren't as "big" in the public eye as the likes of Trainspotting and Monty were. Think of someone you know who has little to no interest in film, and ask them which of those films they've seen or heard of. British cinema just seems so "underground" in Britain, which is a bit messed up. It is a bad way when the best British films aren't being given major play in all the multiplexes, and audiences are conditioned to accept American films over UK ones. It's really rare to see a genuinely successful, genuinely British film (sounds like TIE is doing well though, which is a good sign). But let's not call for Robert Carlyle's head for saying it.

He's only really trying to get people to see 28 Weeks Later, it's just the sideswipe at TIE's potential audience pull that doesn't really ring true. He's not really an expert on such matters is he?
Personally I'm gonna need more persuasion than knowing Danny Boyle and Alex Garland are executive producers before I rush and see 28 Weeks.

Sorry but 28 Weeks Later for me was amazing.... More down to the director than Bobby though. Very true. 28 Weeks Later was better than I expected because I wanted to dislike this film due to Robert Carlyle's comments posted on this thread! His performance in the film was workman-like but energetic at times... He's still a silly billy though.

I wasn't really keen on idea of him being in it though, i like the realism of 28 days... With new actors. Both Brendan Gleeson and Christopher Eccleston had been in Hollywood films by this point... Notably Gleeson in MI:2 and Eccleston in Gone In 60 Seconds .... both gash... Also Eccleston had been on our screens a fair while .... But I get what you mean, I'm just being a picky cunt... I saw "28 Weeks Later" last night, was very pleasently suprised .... SPOILER Nothing beats that helicopter bit! END OF SPOILER Carlyse can say what he wants.... hes wrong.... but he can say it He's done some proper shite and some gems .... I don't kno where I'm going with this... so im going to stop typing....now...

he's not the first tit that equated art with commerce.Even if no bugger had seen TIE, wouldnt have made it any less of a film. Film makers should have no concern with "industry", only with the art itself. No one expected van Gogh to market his own t-shirts, at least not as far as i know, and TIE wont be a better film than DMS or ARFRB because more people see it, it will merely make more money.

Film makers should have no concern with industry only with the art itself. Unfortunately, most filmmakers are judged by what business their last film did - their films need to be a moderate success at the very least, in order for them to get their next project financed.

It really is so True. Theres definatly a point though when you know you've done something right, as you can afford to 'flop' a film.

I think its a matter of taste, and publicity. Mr Robert Carlyle obviously aint got no taste as T.I.E looks great. Lets see his opinion again when Shanes movies really hit the great british public or worldwide public for that matter. I see a lot of you here have been here on this site since 2005, I swear, I enjoy movie's and the internet, but I have only just heard of Shane Meadows and his films, and I was instantly hooked, so much so I have ordered all his titles that HMV had in stock. How many more people actually find out about who is what and where, unless they happen upon a great trailer, as I did with T.I.E. I have since emailed all my mates, neighbours and family to make sure they are aware of some great films to look for, by Shane Meadows, maybe if we all did this sooner or later the Big Screens will have to sit up and take note, and bring these realistic films to the masses, rather than the hyped up Blockbusters we all love to hate. Must say I was slightly peeved to have paid £7 at HMV for DMS , when I have since learned it was on Film 4 the other day and I missed it. But not to worry, as long as the stats are counted at HMV as to what is being bought and it adds to Mr Meadows tally. Stuff Mr Carlyle. He is one voice in millions, and his is the midget, small and insignificant.
