Hi, sorry that I've started a new thread; the other one's filtered and I'm using a network computer. In other words, I'm at school!

As you can see I am from Uttoxeter, where Shane himself started out. My mother was friends with Shane as a youth and as I was growing up I had dreams of being a movie director, yet in Uttoxeter the movie world is so far removed and sort of stifles your dreams, even though it's a wonderful place.

Then my mum told me about Shane. I was fascinated and to date have seen A Room For Romeo Brass, Once Upon A Time In The Midlands and Dead Man's Shoes. I have been intruiged by Shane and his history, movies, ideas for ages and about two years ago I placed an online search for a website which told me more about Shane yet I couldn't find one.

My dreams gradually disintegrated when I became immersed in my school work and took the option to study English at university, which I will attend next year. I used to harbour dreams of saving up and going to film school for a year but the lack of opportunity in Uttoxeter reluctantly forced me to pursue other careers, yet it's only recently that I have again decided to throw myself back into hoping to make films. I really look upto Shane as he has progressed from being a Uttoxeter lad to working with some of the finest names in acting and look to him for inspiration.

All of you seem like brilliant people, I have searched through loads of posts on this forum to find a bit about the community here and I really like it. I'm here to find out more about Shane and talk to other people who share my interest. Thanks for your time, I'm only a 17 year old student but I hope you welcome me

You have a very interesting history. You'll get along just fine with us all here, we're all friendly, and we have the same passion for films and shane's films as you do.

I've been through Uttoxeter a few times, seems like a nice place.

Don't worry about starting a new thread... that's what this board is for.

Your introduction makes for interesting reading! Keep your film-making aspirations alive too. If you only learn one thing from Shane's own experience, it's that you don't need to go to film school to grow into a talented film-maker.

Anyway, look forward to chatting with you on the boards!

By the way, there are quite a few people as young as youon here I think..... many of them being from the cast of Shane's new film, This Is England!

Uttoxeter's the same, thankyou, the older people speak about how the town is steeped with tradition yet the young ones just want to get up and move away

This place has a nice air about it. The only disadvantage I have with making films is that it's my mate who's studying Media at Burton, not me. But I don't think it's done that way any more. More of who you know, not what you know?

Welcome to the board, Richard. Don't worry about doing English at university, it's probably almost as useful as film school anyway and a darn sight cheaper. I sort of wish I'd studied English at university, but I haven't even got the A level. I don't know what it says about you that you've read the boards here and STILL decided to post.
