I have to say I'm looking forward to watching This is England film, I was a member of a sister cult from 1979-1985, and living near Shane in Burton-on-Trent. I believe Shane even lives on my Road or Hill as its known, anyway we were Mods, and we lived a smiler life style to the Skins in our area anyway, I must say even though Ive not watched the film yet I think Shane has done a great thing capturing the social history of his youth and I envy him, I must say I also brought from that era a social record of that time, and wrote a book Mod Revival 1979, its done well and many according to feedback have enjoyed it but a book is nothing compared to a film, well done Shane, and keep up the good work, from a fellow cult member from those Crazy Days, Hi all its Greg from Burton-on-Trent. ...

Is it a cult or is it known as a 'movement'.
There were mods, rockers, skins, perry boys etc etc. It seemed to dry up everywhere else after the 80s in terms of popularity. You see fazes now, this current emo lark, skaters and goths but they disappear quite quickly and don't really last.
One movement which has stood the test of time and was pretty much derived from mods/skins et al is the 'football casual'. Been around since the 80s and still going strong today, but is rarely classed as a movement/belonging and often misrepresented as hooliganism, of course there are hooligan factors in some circles but it's not mutually exclusive. Theres a proper look and sense of belong which proper 'casuals' can all relate to regardless of loyalties.

I agree there were so man cults/movements from the late 70's through to the mid 80's and to the unknown it must be confusing, I was original aboy skinhead in the early 70's same age as Shaun in the film, but I progressed to the Mod revival in 1978/79, and us lot in Oldham based ourselves on the original Mods of the 60's with the suits, loafers, ben shermans and fred Perry's etc, most of the OLdham Skins became Mods, but the younger skins were into Oi and Punk, much like the ones in This is England, wheras we were into Northern Soul, Ska and Reggae, the younger Mods were into the Jam and Secret Affair, unfortunately the skins in the early 80's had no respect for the Mods and often clashed, which was particular sad for me being an original skinhead. and then we had the bleedin Perry Boy's, heavily influenced by Mancs and Scouse scallies, we ,ods and Skins clashed with these regularly, even though the Perry Boys were seen by mnay as Modern day Mods, which I now accept, there has never been a film on the Perry boys has there ? big market there Shane mate ?
