The unique position I am in? I wasn't handed my life by jesus youth! Risks baby, risks! I see you hid your email. I'm sorry about that man, never meant any harm. A simple reply would have been fine. But its okay now, I understand and will not forget. I won't bother you or any of your movies ever again.

Didn't Shane just mean that he had forged his own way in life, coming from humble beginnings?

I’m not far off being that Chap Dave!
I don’t know if this whole thing is actually about perception though. In the article it says people in the 80’s cared more about where the country was going. Well in the 80’s the older generation who went through the 60’s largely thought that generation was Apathetic.
I’m about ten years younger than Shane and growing up I didn’t see lots of people who just wanted to keep their mouths shut, nor did we sit in playing playstation. All my great childhood memory’s are also of playing out with mates seeing if you could get away with staying out later than you were aloud to.
But already I see my mates doing the ‘it was better in our day routine’ “We cared more” or what’s more funny – “we had more respect”.
They sight Happy slapping as an example but they forget that we had random acts of violence when we were teens. It just wasn’t put on the net. Because it has been now doesn’t make it new or mean it came about because of technology. The 90’s (my generation I suppose) was a completely different generation. A generation of miss placed optimism granted. One where suddenly everyone thought that they could achieve whatever they wanted and what’s more were entitled to it. But a generation with less to say or cared less – I don’t think so. It’s just a different film that’s all.
As for the 9-5 thing maybe I shouldn’t comment because I’ve not done it but I think the point was about people’s attitudes to the world and in my humble opinion there were loads of people in the 80’s who also choose to turn on, tune in and kop out.
Misrepresented I say.
But what do I know.

Shane comes from the same sort of background as lot of us, which is rare as art in this country is not made generally by the working classes, and is another reason to love his films because you just know as Lydon once said he"means it, maaan". A lot of people have talent but not the extra whatever to go out and get heard. All I meant was that he's not in the same position he was say, 10 years ago...

He is a bit in the same position as he was ten years ago. 24-7 was done then.

No not at all Large but i do have certain skills that enable me to escape the ominous nine to five dredgery if i so desired. This of course would have it's own pros and cons and i'm really leaning to making a little move but to be honest i dont know what i would do with myself at the moment so i'm just wasting away in a ver easy shit job.
I also very shrewdly bought my house at the right time and have made a killing on it so the money from that sale would leave me at least 5 very good years without having to work at all. I am, however not stupid so unless i get a brain wave to invest the money in i'll keep the house and hopefully rent it out at the end of the year, make a few moves and get away for a bit of a round the world trip for a couple of years.

I agree with you both about property. I wished that I had gone for a terraced house for about £24,000 in about 1988 or so. Trouble is though, in my humble opinion, we all sound like Thatcher's babies, like it or not. Mind you, it could just be that we need to secure our old age too (she says covering her back)
