Hi
I'm a big fan of Mr Meadows, especially DMS which has to be in my top 5 films ever (the opening with Vessel in Vain gives me goosebumps/tears every time I watch it and thats been quite a few). Hes a great director in so many ways but his choice of music has to be the crowning glory for me - I'm not sure if you can be a great director and have crap music taste and I can thank him for introducing me to so many great artists (Adem, Clayhill, I'd never really even listened to Van Morrison until I heard Wild Night on Twenty Four Seven).
I'm a trainee journalist (boo! hiss!) and I'm trying to write a story at the moment about the Somers Town film which he has done to see what it means for that area and if it links into the redevelopment (i saw the funding came from eurostar which is a bit surprising). If any one here knows of any good information/contacts related to that film I'd be very grateful.
Anyway, I don't want to turn the forum into a PR company. Suffice to say, Shane is the dogs bolllocks.

Welcome! If you find any salient info on Somers Town, then do let me know. I can't find much either. I think the production company is Tomboy films, but there's nowt on their site. Maybe you could drop them an email... and then send me the results!

I did get in touch with Tomboy Films and got a bit of information below (I've pasted in the questions and answers). Nothing that wasn't probably already known but it is good to see that the film might get a general release and that Shane had complete creative control. I'm hoping to speak to someone at Eurostar and then hopefully email Shane some questions - I don't know how realistic it will be to get in touch with him but its worth a try!
How did Tomboy Films get involved in this film? We were first approached because we represent Shane Meadows as a Director for commercials. The original concept was for Shane to direct a short film about the Somers Town area and the changes that the relocation of the European rail terminal would have on the area. As a production company we then hired the writer Paul Fraser to develop and subsequently write a script which was then offered to Shane to direct. Is the main source of funding from Eurostar? Yes. Was their a remit to what type of films would receive funding from Eurostar – did the film have to be set in this area for example? This was a specific project Eurostar wished to be involved in to mark the opening of the new station and also becuase they wanted to work with Shane. Beyond giving us the brief that the film should reflect the geographical location of the station, Eurostar gave us bsolute creative freedom at all stages of the project. It began as and has always remained a Shane Meadows Film. How did Shane Meadows get involved? see above Is the film going to get a general release? we hope so. It is being screened at Berlin Festival this February and The Works have been appointed as international sales agents - so we all hope that it will be a success.
