Boddingtons is the only one. I was in Crewe today and it was notable by its absence apart from one pub. 'Mansfield Bitter' just cannot hold a torch to it.
Although Robinsons Dizzy Blonde is pretty good, albeit temporarily.

Pretty good review that... very well written. One bit I don't like though: You wonder, if Considine had played Combo rather than Stephen Graham, whether This Is England (2007) might have been an even better one. Nah... I reckon he cracked it with that role, I'm a fan of Paddy, but I don't think he'd have done as good a job in this particular film - what do you reckon? N.

I agree, it wouldnt have been the same, and with dead mans shoes and romeo brass it would have been too expected.

Yes, I agree too. There's a bizarre fascination with many people and reviewers (not that they're not people) always thinking 'would it have been better if Paddy had played so-and-so in the this Meadows film?'
Same thing happened a bit with Rhys Iffans in OUTITM.... I don't deny that Paddy would have been great in it, but I can't imagine him bettering Rhys' performance as Dek. It's simply pitch perfect for the tone of the film. Brilliant.

I thought Stephen Graham was perfect as Combo.

Reeto - we're agreed then, so that reviewer can shut his yap where that's concerned! The rest of it is pretty good though - at least he's watched the films I reckon, because he's certainly descriptive enough in the review. As to Rhys in 'Midlands' - yep, he was spot on in that role... I've not overfond of the film to be honest as I reckon Ricky T is still in "My *rse... meyk the tea Lairkio" mode, and Robert Carlisle appears o be in it just to be 'broody' and menacing and ads little character to the role... but I reckon Rhys is the best one in there... I especially love the 'tour' stuff on the second disc... especially his interest in ciné projectors and the tale about the pigs in the Welsh circus! Anyhow... back to the box set... WHY OH WHY aren't they doing a '2 discer' of T.I.E. Mind you, why ain't they doing 'Small Time' as well - because I'd buy it just for that! N.

I agree, it wouldnt have been the same, and with dead mans shoes and romeo brass it would have been too expected. Yeah it would of.. It certainly would have been interesting, but in regards to the initial review, you couldn't possibly pass judgement on that.. And in somways I spose tht annoys me, because its underminding a knockout performance from Ste Graham. Stephen was so inspiring for the rest of the cast, and really made us take our performances up a notch on his introduction, down to each reaction. I'm not saying Paddy would't have done that, beacuse I find him more inspiring to watch than most other actors full stop, but I can't rly comment as I'm yet to work with him.

We're lucky he didn't pull a gun on the reviewer to show him that 'he'd got the fackin' minerals'!!! ? Quoting from "Snatch" - he was sh*t hot in that! Cheers for the inside info on the man there Kezz, sounds like a decent bloke. N.
