How did the para know who'd done it?

This question has been raised before and I think there's a long thread on the imdb message board regarding it. My personal opinion is that in small towns, certain scandals become common knowledge to many people, via gossip and rumour - all of which the police never get to hear about. People know who the guilty ones are, or who they might be, but they are afraid to speak out for fear of retribution. Anthony would have been seen by other people hanging around with Sonny and the gang and no doubt private concerns would be raised about him. After the event, where the police would have hit a wall of silence, Richard, the para, would have been given information as to what went on. Anyone on the estate with a grudge against Sonny and his gang would have freely told Richard as much as they knew.
I received the cd by the way, thanks Neil - some great pics! I'll have a proper look when I'm not so busy.

but even still, an intriguing element of the plot for me is this feeling Richard always gives me that he's some sort of omniscient being- everywhere at all times, like a ghost. anyone else get that?

Yeah. Sort of. There are lads like that; pathfinders, close observation platoons and stuff. 14 Intelligence Company, SF. I've laid underneath a girlfriends static caravan all Saturday night to find out if she was cheating. Then again, I'm a nut. But so was he in the end.

I now live in a village not too far from DMSland. A neighbour (also an 'outsider') came over for a drink and a chat a couple of months back. Her advice to me was 'don't tell ANYBODY, ANYTHING.' Is that the answer?

Cromford. I've never been to Tansley car boot sale, but I've passed it a couple of times. Seems to be on Sunday in a field somewhere off the A615 just north of the village.

Went two weeks ago. Its fantastic if you want old videos. Or old medicines. You can see Hurst Farm estate and Riber from the field. Not that you'd want to. But as a sad fan, it sends a little shiver. Then again, its fucking cold up there.

According to the directors commentary, shane says that he intended to include a scene where Richard and a character played by Andrew Shim were discussing Antony and Andrew Shims character would have informed him who was responsible.

Thasnks for all that. Listening to : smog vessel in vain... is there a bit on this site that examines the lyrics and meaning of the soundtrack songs? If so where? If not, what's the song about... any ideas? Homecoming wanderer?

My idea about this is that at the start there's a shot of a trike outside the house and it looks just like the house that the blonde girl (Can't remember her name, sorry) lives at, as we see whan Alan grabs her and says something about she's mouthy. I think Richard paid her a visit and she told him who was responsible.
The beauty of it is that there are so many ways to interpret this!

I think first and foremost he would have known from an autopsy done after Anthony was found dead, as would be procedure I should imagine, from which they would have found copious amounts of LSD in his bloodstream, and also bruises etc as they seemed to rough him up a lot to. All this info would have been told to his family, and Rich could piece together events from that... and also local speculation
