Just wandered if anyone else has any ideas in the documentary field..?
Personally its something I aim to touch upon over the course of the next year and I'm about to go on a documentary course this weekend run by the people from LivingSpirit who do the Guerilla Filmmakers books.
I think especially in the UK it can only be a wise choice to broaden my type of output with regards to filmmaking, its not as if the UK nurtures talent all to well anyway.
So has anyone worked on any documentary stuff as yet..? Any plans or aspirations to do so..?

I've got a documentary in the pipe-line. It's a very basic concept, but it should work when I have the time to commit. I'd like to spend a little time traveling with just one bag and hearing the stories of the people I meet as freewheel for a few months. It's got more structure than that, but that's the basic concept.

I've just done a couple of edits of making of docos for my local Film Consortium. They just gave me some footage and i edited all together. Very simple stuff. Not a proper doco, but it was great fun. I'd definitely do it again. They're gonna be on youtube soon so i'll show them to all. Also in the edit stages of something doco styled... but i'm keeping quiet about it. Really interested in making docos in the future.. particularly as i'm not a writer, and they don't requite one. I have a few nice ideas.

Christ, not Requiem for a Dream again....
I've pondered briefly about documenting the fall of industries within the North East. Mainly focusing on Swan Hunter's protracted, slow death as well as Ellington Colliery's.
Plus something to do with Northern Rock, although it'd mainly just be me having a stab at ITV for breaking the news and ultimately causing it's downfall. BOOOOO!

I would like to a doc on the infamous computer game series Championship manager.
I've mentioned it to a few people and at first they think I mean a slow deconstruction of how to play the game, when actually i'm thinking more about the story of how 2 brothers made something in their bedroom that has become a worldwide phenomena, cited in a good few divorce cases and played by celebrities, football players alike and in some cases has been mentioned as a useful scouting tool for managers given the realism of the players details.
I dont play it anymore myself, but it amuses me how the game is still considered somewhat of a guilty pleasure amongst many folk, and its not something people usually admit to playing.
A few women I have mentioned this to saw their faces light up, all of whom with experience of a boyfriend or ex who sat for hours watching a computer screen with words and numbers instead of giving them some attention.

Aye, there's been some really excellent documentaries on games. From Russia With Love (Tetris) King of Kong And some more. I've thought about doing a Spy fiction documentary, too just so I could crowbar Metal Gear Solid into it. Champ Man's a great subject to delve into and it's not as if the community's vanished.... www.thedugout.tv

I have a friend who used to play Championship Manager a lot, and i could see why. Personally i'm not huge on football so never got into it. Be a good topic for a doco, didn't realise two brothers made it?!
King of Kong - is this out yet?! :S Really want to see it.

law enforcement officers and how they cope with things after they have had a traumic 911 call. what do yout think? I think that sounds like a great idea. Police forces are over-exposed in the media, but if you were looking at the emotional and psychological impact on three or four individuals, you would be revealing a story about people coping after frequently extreme situations. If you had a sense of 'what would these things do to people over a period of time', it would potentially be very interesting to make and to watch.

I've noticed all our British cop shows are completely pedestrian and bland compared to the US counterparts. It's all down to the way the officers on the British shows speak. It's like they're trying to remain professional and restrained whilst talking about how they forced a drug dealer off the road and off a cliff.
"I restrained the individual and gave myself a pat on the back for a job well done."
