Hi.
I just wanted to say, how sorry I feel because there are no english subtitles on all of Shauns DVD's. I just rented "This is England" and bought "A Room For Romeo Brass" and honestly: I understand about 5% of the dialogue. However, I really enjoyed them and also have been able to follow the story in most parts.
I'm quite sure that I am not alone with this problem. Actually on the imdb-boards even native Americans claim to have big problems with the dialect.
I believe that delivering the dvd's with english subtitles could bring these beautiful films a much broader audience.

It may be unfortunate but D.V.D accessible features may come at a cost and rely on specialist services whether it be subtitles or audio description which is very technology dependent and time consuming I have not seen subtitling being done, logistically I can not really comment. But a blind friend of mine would not have chosen TIE but none the less enjoyed it with the A.D and the social realism of the story line!

I agree with you guys I mean how hard can it be to understand. I heard that Trainspotting and Sweet Sixteen had subtitles for an English audience, that really pissed me off but I suppose I can understand to a point but Shane's films certainly dont need them, oh unless you have lived under a silver spoon all your life away from the rural ruffians!

If one doesn't understand the subtlety of British humour then what on earth is one doing on this forum? The subtlety of British Humour.... a beginner's guide to it's useage on forums - in three easy parts. Presented by Carolyn. Step One: Sarcasm Step Two: Presume you know the national identity of the person you are replying to (even though this presumption is based on pure guesswork). Next, concoct an elaborate tirade of abuse based on your own prejudice towards said nationality. Finally, aim this abuse at the person you are replying to because you presume they are connected to this nationality... even though they probably aren't. Step Three: Appear mad. Anyway, blind and visually impaired people have 'audio description'.... but very rarely is it available. The This Is England DVD does have such a track though! French, Italian and German films are not in English.

I love my imaginary world. I love travel, although haven't done that much in the last 10 years, and love people. I find it interesting. I'm in house share with a Polish girl and a woman from India. It's nice, we get along alright actually.
