Hello Shane Meadows, duno what your policy is on replying to people but have just stumbled across this forum now while doing a bit of research and although I wouldn't normally do this, (I'm not really very technological in general!) there's a few things I'd like to tell you while I get the chance: Firstly, my name is Ella and I'm 17. I've always been really passionate about acting which is as naturalistic as possible and I find myself getting unneccessarily angry when I watch anything but, on TV and film especially. A few months ago now, I had my TV on while getting ready for bed at about 1 in the morning, when a film called A room for Romeo Brass came on and instantly within the first scene I found myself gawping at the screen with admiration and feeling so excited, because I'd never seen anything that dared to be so naturalistic before. It reminded me why I want to go into acting, and I realised that to be successful means nothing unless you can actually produce something of amazing quality. Since then I have tried to convince everyone I know that this film contains some of the country's finest acting and directing, so I thank you for giving those actors a chance to shine. My friend Jack from The National Youth Theatre also loved it. I don't have an agent, am just trying to stumble my way through a-levels at the moment, but was wondering how you went about the casting process. Im planning to take a gap year next year and would be very grateful if you would give me the chance to audition for one of your films, even just as an extra. I know you must get a million people asking you this every day, and I appreciate how busy you are, but there's no-one in the world whose work I admire more and this chance would mean so much. My email address is ella.bruccoleri@hotmail.co.uk. Please get in touch, I would make anything you could offer my priority, Ella.

Hey,
I left a message a few days ago regarding the same thing. I also want to be apart of the whole thing. Dead Man's Shoes got my attention, i highly recommend it if you haven't seen it! Are you apart of the National Youth Theatre aswell then?

I'd like some money, please. The landlord's gonna be here in a couple of hours and I'm about a month behind on rent. I think he knows kung fu.

no point in a boat without oars, so, good call there Dave #3. Always thinking ahead Michael. I'd prefer these if possible: And i'd obviously need two, a left oar and a right oar. Thanks again.

Ella - I would suggest you beg steal or borrow the money to but the recently released, THIS IS SHANE MEADOWS DVD box set - it contains four of his films - 24/7, ROOM FOR ROMEO BRASS, dEAD MAN'S SHOES and THIS IS ENGLAND - all of which are great. There are some brilliant [and very insightful] extra features on these discs, many of which detail how Shane and Co. go about casting their films.

Or........ Instead of asking Shane. Why not ask Kezz/Gadge? Surely if anyone knows how to get onto a Shane Meadows film, or any film, it could be one of them two? Although I heard Kezz's methods were a little unorthodox, think 'casting couch'. (I should probably add to make people realise im pulling his leg) I do know how to get a part as an extra in a Nick Love feature, although this info will cost £10. This is a Schooner.

(I should probably add to make people realise im pulling his leg) Hehehe, no unorthodox was about right m8.. -------- On a serious note newbies, my advice to everyone that wants to be an actor.. is to apply at drama schools or for agents.. or use your inniative (In-ish-A-tiv) and make some stuff yourself like shane and paddy started doing.. or alternativly.. wait for a part in a film where they want to cast a character similar to yourself in real life, so that the casting director will think they've discovered the next Thomas Turgoose, as thats what seems to be happening ever since TIE! It's a step backwards for the British film industry if you ask me!

Hi everyone, Thanks for all the tips and advice you all posted. I think it would be both polite and 'the right thing to do' to reply to you all individually. Apart from maybe 'Chewbaxter' because....
Well I just don't think we're on the same level...
Hey Warren, yep I am in the National Youth Theatre. Are you aswell??!! If you aren't and you're interested in acting you really should audition...its MINT. I will watch Dead man's shoes, in fact I think I'm gonna go 'crazy' and buy the box-set like 'Companero' suggested. So how are we gonna go about this mission to be in a meadow's film then? short of sneaking onto the filmset. I can't find your message, I'd like to see what you think about the whole thing. And thanks alot Companero, thats very good advice, I will do that rightaway. Kezz, thanks for the advice, I'm applying for drama schools next year, but I was thinking that Mr. Meadows looks for fresh actors who haven't had much training coz these are often the most natural ones- not so set in their ways. I may be wrong though. I am also starting to make my own short films, and appearing (like a poltergeist) in friend's (budding film-makers) ones aswell just for the experience. But might start taking this abit more seriously..... And I totally agree with you about the actors basically playing themselves by the way. It gets good results I must admit, but it's as though we've lost faith in really good British acting.
