So many threads, so little time for a piggy to visit!
I just thought I would do one big round'up in one place instead of spreading mesen too thinly and getting rsi!
LE DONK (FT SCOR-ZAY-ZEE) Update:
Donk is moving along nicely. We need an afternoon to pick up a couple of scenes, but it should be done before XMAS and I plan to leak a few snippets in the coming months. We are planning to Grade and mix it all in Final Cut Pro, so there shouldn't be too many holdups.
Still not sure what form of release we will pursue but it looks set to be feature length, which is a nice bonus and should open up a lot of possibilities in terms of festivals etc. My hope would be to tour the UK with it in a small number of independent cinemas and release it on DVD thru warp with Both pilots and loads of bonus scenes etc.
Also, It is looking likely it will be B&W like the two original pilot ideas shot back in 2000.
SOMERS TOWN:
Have just completed two week shoot in Somers Town (London) which went very well. Shooting in London is comparable to doing triple heart bypass surgery in a shopping centre, but we got there. Quite a departure for me as at least 50% of the film was shot in polish!
It looks like it might be 45-60Min's so could end up being a one off drama on TV. This was shot B&W and from the rushes I have seen, looks very promising. Tomo (Shaun from TIE) plays a central role alongside a young unknown boy from Warsaw and also shares some screen-time with Kate Dickie (of 'Red Road' fame). Perry Benson turned in a blinder too and there is a great cameo from my blood brother Mr Andrew Shim.
This will have a proper post production schedule so may not leave the production line until after Jesus Day, but may be ready for Sundance and Berlin and a springtime release on DVD/TV.
KING OF THE GYPSIES:
We (Myself and Mark) are meeting C4 in a few weeks to discuss KOTG. We aim to start writing this winter. It will probably be a lengthy process, but at least the ball is finally rolling. After waiting (unsuccessfully) for dozens of other writers to start work on it, I have decided the ME and PADDY should just do it ourselves! If you want a job doing....
OTHER NEWS:
TIE is doing frikking amazingly well! Number 1 in the DVD charts being the highpoint of an already amazing year. I head into my final leg of publicity in France next week for the French release, then onto Dinard where they are doing a Meduz Retrospective. Dinard is my most fav festival, so it is a fitting end to the tour.
SMALLTIME is still stuttering along. Won't appear until the new year at the earliest.
SHORTS - My short film collection is being archived over the coming months. So not only will we have an actual number (I really have lost count) but there should be some bits and pieces appearing on the site this XMAS. Some of these have never been seen, some have not even been edited! They are spread over every tape format known to man, so it will be a lengthy process, but I am really looking forward to getting it all into the digital domain and finally finding out how many shorts I have actually made since my first in June 1994.
Phew! X.
