Does anybody know of universities in the UK who allow a decent Film/ Media course which also provides the opportunity for you to make a film during a practical?
I would love to be able to do this having made two shot films previously. I would love to take it one step further and create something at university.
Any help would be most appreciated.

Hey NYD this might not be the answer your after but I personally would forget the Uni route and just get out there and do it. Get your film made and prove to everyone that you can do it and that you are a serious film maker. I'm also talking from personal experience having just finished my first big film Soldier Boy. So much crap comes out of Uni film and most of the big Directors (Meadows included) just got on with it and got there stuff made ;D
Best of luck and enjoy and learn from it.

Cheers DazzaB for the response. I have about a year to decide on what to do. I want to do so much but I can't. I want the whole university experience and I want nothing more than to make films.
I am planning a film at the minute called Southpaw about boxing in Salford, Manchester. I have ideas for another one called 'A Tale Of Johnny' which I am also developing. I think depending on how they do seem in a few months I can make a firm decision then.

It is your life, that's for sure. I know a lot of the guys here have mixed views on Uni as step towards a film career, and like Dazza said, a getting busy without that support network is actually the best education you can get.
I think Uni is more about a social life than a career for a lot of people.
Good move Ryd. For you, it sounded better to go your own way. It's worked for me, but I don't know that everybody should go this route. If you're not confident to not go, then do it for experience, but don't believe the career prospects hype.

To be honest having just got back from a 'higher education' talk at school I am considering the university life. It will allow me a chance to meet people and perhaps get to know people who share similar film interests. I am nervous about risks and feel that abondoning university to attempt some film career would be too risky.
Basically if I see what university can offer me then that is best. I shall then invest in filming software and equipment either during uni or after and begin to film in my spare time...thanks for all the help guys.

Isn't Bournemouth a good university in the UK, as its specialist areas are Media and Art?
