Hi there.
I'd just like to introduce myself and say what a wonderful site this is. I was watching Somers Town last night (as I had just bought it on DVD) and I decided to hit the net afterwards to look for any Shane Meadows sites. I've looked before but surprisingly never stumbled across this one until now. I'm glad I have found it. You all seem like a really nice bunch of people, very supportive of each other, which is a rarity on these kinds of sites where you usually just find arrogant fanboys trying to stir up trouble with each other.
I've been a fan of Shane Meadows since 2000/2001 when I saw A Room for Romeo Brass late one night on channel 4. It totally blew me away and I instantly became a fan of both Meadows and Paddy Considine. I looked for other work they had done but was surprised to find it was Paddy's first feature. Nevertheless, I checked out TentyFourSeven and I've been Meadows Mad ever since. I have everything that he has released on DVD and CANNOT WAIT FOR KING OF THE GYPSIES!
I had always wanted to be involved in filmmaking in some way but I was never quite sure how. So, I unfortunately wasted too many years of my late teens and early twenties doing nothing about it and working in a dead end job. But, seeing Romeo Brass in the early noughties gave me that kick up the arse that I needed. Seeing how down to earth and completely unpretentious Shane was in interviews and on his DVDs reignited my desire to become a filmmaker and so I went to university and studied TV Production simply because it gave me free access to university equipment. I have made quite a lot of films since (of varied quality) and you might say that I owe it to Shane.
I have to say too, that, judging from what I've been seeing on this site in the past 24 hours there is a considerable degree of talent amongst you guys. I've been watching all of your films and I've got to say, they're damn good. Ryd's Twilight Harvest creeped me out last night and Gareth's cul de sac was awsome. Made me piss myself.
Anyway, that's it for now, just wanted to say a big hello to you all.
-Bryan.
p.s. please check out my other post with a link to a film I made called Far From Home. It is a documentary about the first Polish bus driver in my hometown of Warrington. I would really appriciate any honest feedback. Cheers.
