Hello everyone,
Why I’m here.
I got into Shane Meadows through piracy. I’d read about a low budget film called Dead Man’s Shoes in an out-of-date cinema brochure, and having a Del Boy contact who did copied DVDs, asked if he had it. He’d never heard of it but searched high and low and eventually found it. The box sleeve was printed in faded colours, the disc blank with shaky handwriting, and there were no extras. But the film? It captivated me like nothing before.
A few years later I went to see 28 Weeks Later at the cinema but it was sold out. Looking through another brochure I saw a little photo with a gang of skin heads, one holding two fingers up. The name Shane Meadows rang a bell. We gave This Is England a go in place of the zombies. Again, I was enthralled. And I have been since.
I find myself promoting his films and am proud to do so, and have got loads of people into them which they probably wouldn’t have otherwise. I presume a lot of people have discovered these unique films in similar, word-of-mouth ways.
One night, I drove 40 miles out of my way to see Somers Town as it was on limited release, and picked up a £25 parking fine to boot. I’m suffering, and it’s not even my art.
So that’s why I’m here. I wouldn’t say piracy is all that bad, would you?!
Anyway, hello!
Cheers,
Rodwack

Nice story. Welcome to the forum.
Hopefully if you can afford it you could by the DVDs now. Put some pennies Shane's way so he can make King Of The Gypsies and buy Pampers and Calpol.
Dave's set up a shop. You could start there and help support this site. ;D

Hey everyone. Thanks for the warm welcome!
Chromebaby - I do own all Shane's DVDs now, and the real ones too!!! Actually I don't have Somers Town yet, as I've decided to get that on Blu-Ray. I'm just waiting for Del Boy to get me a decent player.
Christ, the fans are scattered all over - Nebraska eh!

Christ, the fans are scattered all over - Nebraska eh! Yup. I caught Dead Man's Shoes on DVD about two-and-a-half years ago, and I've been hooked ever since!
