Hello Shane! I been a huge fan of yours for many years now! I just recently watched your new film "Le Donk & Scor Zay Zee" and it was very amusing and funny! However, i did notice that in the film, your using the same keyboard that i had to make my music on which is ofcourse the "Yamaha DjxII" and 39 minutes and 54 seconds into the film you started to use the same sound rhythm/beat that i used in one of my tracks called "Be Happy" which i made originally in about 2004. It was hilarious because you mentioned in the film that you prefered and liked that sound more because the other sound sounded more like a keyboard sound and the sound you liked didn't sound like a keyboard sound and that was the sound i used in that track i mentioned above. I don't suppose i get any royalties from that since it was a sound from a keyboard? Ha! Ha! Anyway, do check out that track here: www.myspace.com/maelstroma Some of the other tracks on myspace were made using that same keyboard. It would be cool to hear back from you and let me know your thoughts on the matter. Anthony (Maelstrom / Parallax Sounds)

Im not sure you can own keyboard presets.. Exactly.. definitely not. That's the whole point of built in keyboard presets, beats and loops... anyone can use them royalty free!

Hi Shane! Alright me duck! I am pretty sure myself that keyboard preset sounds are royalty free, so there's nothing to worry about but donations are always welcome, even if it is one drop of worcester sauce! ha! ha! However, I would like to write about the use of the same keyboard and music you used in your film on my myspace blog and on my label's website if thats ok with you? I think it would help generate interest more in my music and my label and it could possibly get you some new fans aswell. I am always telling people about your films and how great they are! Your films are among my favourites of all time! It is awesome that the same keyboard and a part of my music is involved in one of your films along with Warp and Paddy Considine! If you like to get in contact with me Shane, feel free to send me an email at: parallaxsounds@yahoo.co.uk Keep up the good work my friend! Anthony

While were on this subject I'd like to draw attention to the look that the 'Le Donk' character gives to the camera 34 mins into the film. Its a very wry look that I patented back in 1974 while starring in the minor stage hit 'Tits and Bassoons' about a woodwind band forced to strip to pay the bills.
I do know that Shane has been successfully sued in the past for such 'borrowings' and I'll expect a pm with an offer of sufficient compensation.
Good day to you.

Oh shit!!! KINSKI!!!! I just made an offhand reference to him not 5 minutes ago!!!!!! (Sorry this is not on topic, but still!! It's Kinski!!!! (I just rewatched "My Best Fiend", had to show it to a friend of mine who is completely unfamiliar with Kinski and Herzog, something I had to remedy immediately! I think it will result in a Kinki/Herzog marathon). And about the thread...I don't know why, but I'm a little charmed...

I been talking with my lawyer who deals with the copyright side of the music and he said that i might be able to claim something apparently. He is going to get back with me sometime just after xmas, so i'll keep you posted! It be interesting to find out though! Anyway, i'm not really bothered about it too be honest! Hope you and everyone else have a nice festive holiday!

The lawsuit should be heading in their direction for daring to include royalty free beats in their keyboards! Surely anyone who has ever paid for your music, or paid to see you live has more right to sue YOU for palming them off with pre-made corporate loops made by 'the man'.

Hey Dave, i always thought loops/sounds were royalty free, although you have to acknowledge the person who did the loop/sound originally. And i was very surprised when my copyright lawyer said that i might be able to claim something?? I'm not going to push charges if this is the case because i agree with you on your first post. As for people sueing me for palming them off with premade loops (most sounds i use are sounds that i create myself), the same could be said for doing the same in the film.

But in the film it is part of the joke. Using the beats directly from the keyboard is funny. Hope you don't mind this debate. I don't want to make it uncomfortable, it's just quite interesting. Imagine all the other people who have used the same beat but before you used it. By your copyright lawyer's logic, there must be a hell of a lot of people who could sue you!

Yeah i get the joke! It was even more funny when they used the same keyboard and sound loop! Lots of funny parts in that film! Among my favourites are: Le Donk telling Shane not to film the bit with his ex girlfriend and Le Donk wanting to have a shit in private, that was amusing too! Its great to have something in the film you can relate to, in this case the keyboard and sound loop, its even more great especially when your a big fan of Shane's films like i am!
