I think episodes 3 + 4 of TIE were so much better than 1 +2, in the way they were shot and especially in the acting performances. So I vote for option 2. It was a close call though with option 3 because pickled onion monster munch are wkd

I think that there was definitely a deliberate shift in tone between eps 2 and 3 – I’ve thought about this a lot and don’t think this has as much to do with Tom Harper’s direction and more to do with easing the viewers into the series – there were also a lot more of the SKINS-style moments in Eps 1 and 2, which would lead the more seasoned Meadows fans to think that may be Channel 4 insisted on the comedy and naked bodies in order to entice the younger crowd – people who may not normally have bothered watching a series set in an era before they were born. For us oldies it’s easy to forget that teenagers and a lot of early-twentysomethings weren’t even conceived in ’86!

I agree episodes 3 and 4 were different but I still think episodes 1 and 2 were good TV viewing and Harper did a good job. Just judge the series against a lot of crap being shown on TV and the series stands out.
I'm assuming eps 3 and 4 are going to be merged into a film for festival circuit possibly. I'm sure I read Shane or Mark Herbert say that somewhere.
I think Shane will possibly only do TV work if he can delegate some of the work as it then gives him time to his film commitments and projects. Then on the other hand he did say how quick TV turnaround was to film so I guess its if the great man can juggle it all.

I'm pretty sure you've got the wrong end of the stick somewhere. I can't imagine it happening, the last two episodes wouldn't make sense on their own without the first two.

I'm pretty sure you've got the wrong end of the stick somewhere. I can't imagine it happening, the last two episodes wouldn't make sense on their own without the first two. It was something about certain international markets, the series would be split into two films for theatrical release. Episodes 1 and 2 = Film 1 Episodes 3 and 4 = Film 2 So you have a filme directed by Tom Harper, and a film directed by Shane Meadows I think Tom Harper did a brilliant job myself. I think a more interesting question is should Shane work with co-writers, as I think that has far more to do with the content and tone of the final piece. My answer would still be yes. In the past Shane has co-written with friends... Paul Fraser and Paddy Considine. This time it was with someone he didn't previously know (as far as I know anyway), Jack Thorne. I think this definitely manifested itself a bit in the series. It sometimes felt like two different styles working against each other.

Oh if they're doing it with the first two as well, it'd make more sense. I thought DB meant just the last two episodes as a standalone sequel to the first film.

I don't have an opinion of what I think Shane should or shouldn't do that's his call but I would rather see something that was 100% Shane Meadows and maybe less of it, than something with another director on board and more episodes.
And yeah Tom Harper did a fantastic job but even if the other director was Scorsese I'd rather see someones vision from start to finish 100% who ever the film or program maker.
I've been coming on this forum for the last few years because I hold Shane's directing in such high regard, Deadmans Shoes is my favorite film but I wouldn't join a Deadmans Shoes forum, it really is Shanes directing that gets me so excited to see his films and what makes his work stand out.

Future projects: why not? if the product is the concept of both directors, but i think the major problem shane fans had with 1 & 2 is with TIE being so heavily Shane's vision, we could spot the difference in style, atmos etc.
But to others new to Shane's work the first two episodes were a great way to entice the teen viewers with the comedy etc then leading into shane's direction in 3 & 4, which I'm sure would have captured an awful lot of youngsters imaginations, and bring a whole new generation to his work.

I think it would seem different to us if it was a brand new "world" they created together. I think we could see the effect of having a new writer and director on board, because we already felt we knew this world and these characters and so any change in tone or characterisation stood out more. I still think everyone involved did a great job, but I think that's why some people felt bits jarred, maybe.
If they did TIE'90, I'd still want Jack Thorne and Tom Harper to be involved.

I voted, Pickled Onion Monster Munch. And I'll tell you why...
On one hand, as a fan, I like Shane's style and when he's left to his own devices the work he produces have been transcendental experiences for me.
On the other hand, Shane's an artist who likes to take risks and that can only be a good thing. I imagine he'll want to develop and try new ways of working as time goes by and so he should while the opportunities are there.
Also I loved Pickled Onion Monster Munch. Those Walker's Sensations Crisps, the Balsamic Vinegar and Caramelised Onion flavour ones, taste just like them!
