And that's saying something - there are some belters out there - my top one being "The Wicker Man" (original) which is excellent - but this has got my No. 1. spot now. I'd let my copy of 'Romeo' out and only just got it back, so I'd bee waiting for a bit to hear Shane & Paddy's stuff - I'm glad I watched it now. The only fault for me in that the film as no subtitles, as I like to see the 'original words' on screen whilst folk do the commentary... bu that apart I loved it. You get to hear all Shane's autobiographical stuff which IS interesting... I know at times some directors can rattle on about all kinds of boring sh*te in a commentary, but not this one - it's all good stuff. Interesting to see where Paddy got his accent for Morell from... based on Bartley Gorman (as in 'King Of The Gypsies'). What I also like is some of the daft stuff... the f*rting, the 'laddish nonsense' and Paddy's impersonations - they're not overdone like on some commentaries where you know the folk are basically amusing themselves and 'showing off' (like on some of Series 2 of "Phoenix Nights") - they're sporadic and are actually very funny... especially the stuff about 'poo' and Paddy needing a 'p*ss-p*ss'. So I'd left it for ages to watch the film with the commentary, but now I have, I'd recommend it to anyone. Mind you - I had to switch back to the 'normal' soundtrack for the classic line: "I can't destroy you today lads - I'm on very serious business!" N.

Agreed. I can't recall when the DVD was released, but it's been my favourite commentary ever since.
Even Paul Fraser eating crisps on the 24/7 commentary can't compete!
"..I've just eaten half a cows crack"

A great line - I also like the comment when Andrew Shim's the 'glamorous assistant' - "Big Momma's House" and the comments about Paddy's 'pepperpot' addition! N.

I've just added that info. to my original review on 'play.com', plus some others - if it gets folk interested I'll be chuffed - I don't mind 'em getting any cash out of it if it promotes some belting films and stuff! N.

I`m new here and have just finally got round to listening to the commentary for "A room for Romeo Brass". I heard that there was meant to be outtakes with the DVD release, including some extra footage of Morrell`s dancing, but sadly it`s not there. Does anyone know what happened and if there is to be another release with outtakes???

Howdy Peter - been wondering that myself - it would be great.
Maybe when 'This Is England' is released someone may consider it?
FIngers crossed.

Just checked out the commentary today. Paddy's anecdote about the phallic candles tickled me to no end, as did his "chubby rocket" bit. And the comments about Bartley Gorman were very nice. I haven't watched that many of my DVD commentaries, but this was right up there with Sideways. (If anything, this one was even funnier since -- unlike Paul Giamatti and Thomas Haden Church, as much chemistry as they had together -- Shane and Paddy have a great deal of shared history from before the making of their film, and this camaraderie could really be felt in their humor.)

I must agree! I don't normally watch the commentaries on films But ARFRB has got to be the best ever!
I was pissing myself.
Talking about needing a shit after a Macdonalds and getting caught masturbating and oh yeah the Pepper Pot, very very funny indeed!
LOL LOL LOL

Whenever I buy one of Shane's films on DVD I always view the commentaries and documentaries asap. Nobody does them better or more interestingly. They always reignite my passion, desire, and confidence to go out there, just pick up a camera, and start making movies. In his commentaries, Shane always reminds me that he never came from a background of film schools and training. He simply learnt his trade off his own back by going out there and making shorts. Awesome!

Paddy steals the show on this commentry i've never laughed so much especially his take on Frank Harper is worth the price of the Dvd alone. i always look at the film with the commentry on

After reading this thread, I listened to them today Good laugh :-) one of Paddys lines "I'm off to release a chocolate hostage ' a had me in creases :-) On another note, Paddy said he'd like to do some of this again , would love to see Shane bring Morrell back, maybe 6 years after this time, see how he is, maybe in one of his films or dramas ..... anyone else agree ?
