Watched it last night on film4. Is not a bad film atall. Don't think it's any way near as strong as RFRB or DMS but these rank amoung my favourite films ever. Acouple of things let it down for me. One, the soundtrack. This is where Shanes other films have really stood out, a kind of personal touch with the music in both the other films mentioned being perfect for the mood of each scene. Also I didn't really think Robert Carlyles performance was that strong and I didn't really connect with him being that bad guy, he seemed a bit soft, I think Paddy Considine could have pulled this role off better. Other than this I thought Rhys Ifans was fantastic as was Kathy Burke. Was far more light hearted than what has gone before but as ever it was shot amazingly. I'm on at uni doing photography and if I could photograph like this was shot i'd know i'd made it Looking forward to seeing This Is England.

I don't know, tho I think he is a fantastic actor and could pull off most roles. Don't know what it was about Robert Carlyle but I just didn't find his character convincing.
Yep Cov City, the mighty Sky Blues!!! I see you're from Nuneaton too, what a wonderful town we live in!

I went to the Ricoh Arena last Sun to see your boys beat the (soon to be) mighty Sunderland. I thought your lot created a good atmosphere - just shame there were so many empty seats.
Not sure about the new stadium tho - its too fucking bright. I reckon your players are used to it by now which gives them an unfair advantage over visiting teams. Plus your swanky turnstiles brke down which meant we missed kick off (but did get in £4 cheaper when they opened the gates and let everyone pile in).
Anyway, congrats on beating us but we'll do you up in the north east. Plus Don Hutchison is a greedy cunt.

I live on Heath End Road. The other side of the town to everyone else I meet from here. Anyone would think that whitestone was the only place anyone lived Makem. I thought you were poor to be honest, couldn't believe it when you scored! As ever your support was good. I think you'll turn your season round and be a force. Onwards and upwards for us both.

Ok so i watched midlands on film four the other night and i have to say from the very beginning it was a complete pile of shit. I am and have always been a massive fan of shanes and i think that may lead me to be harsher on this film than maybe i would but it is still shite no matter what. Im not gonna go into it but i just kept hoping something would at least drag it up a little. The only good thing i can say and the most shane like thing in it was shimmys acting and his character. What the hell is with that floating dolly whatever shot at the beginning?

What do you expect for free! If you buy it on DVD, Al Pacino playes the role of Dek and Jimmy Sommerville plays Shirley. Muchos better my cruel pal.

Definitely a bit harsh jtrodreguez. It sounds like you're angry that it's 90 minutes you're never get back. Being an Oldham Atheltic Season ticket holder if I started musing on the 90 minute spells I'd "lost" I'd start feeling suicidal.
Rhys Ifans is a superb actor, one of Britain's best and yet it's still one of his best performances to date. I thought the plot itself was simple and flawless, it's just a couple of bad casting decisions and the soundtrack which really pulls this film back.
It really bugs me how much bashing this gets, it's almost like people are blind to actually see the good things about it. The girl who plays Marlene for example is absolutely fantastic.

There are some really funny parts too, like at the start when Dek fucks up on the TV show, and when he crashes.
