Nice write-up! As rock docs go, this sounds like it could be on the order of AJ Schnack's Gigantic (A Tale of Two Johns), about They Might Be Giants -- AJ is clearly a fan of his subject, and while he doesn't dig too deep, he does a pretty good job of summing up the band's appeal as he alternates between two linear narratives (one that follows the band making the Mink Car album and playing various gigs in 2001, another that traces the band's story leading up to then). As for Made of Stone, sadly, I don't see it getting a US release beyond maybe DVD/Video-on-Demand, unless it somehow gets on the North American film-festival circuit and proves exceptionally popular...

Great interview I really like Miranda Sawyer-loved her Park and Ride book. Just read a review on Listfilm that I'm not going to post (would need a 'snotty reviews' thread)-can't please all of the people....

I am also very fond of Miranda Sawyer, but for considerably less literary reasons.

Bad reviews are par for the course but insinuating I was caning it in the beer tent rather than trying to make a good film has been noted and a custard pie with his name on has been baked, in a very heavy tin!

Bad reviews are par for the course but insinuating I was caning it in the beer tent rather than trying to make a good film has been noted and a custard pie with his name on has been baked, in a very heavy tin! I remember reading somewhere about a film critic who didn't fancy his assignment, so he went to the pub instead and then phoned in a review full of bile. It was published the next day. Unfortunately for him, the pre-screening for the critics had actually been cancelled at the last minute. Anyway, I think it might have been this guy who was caning the beer when he should have watching the film-the review is light on specifics. Here's another nice one-'warm, moving and funny.' ;D www.itv.com/news/2013-05-24/the-stone-roses-made-of-stone/

Not sure where to post this-not worth a thread. I watched the BBC documentary Blood on the Turntable (on youtube) tonight. Only ever watched bits of it before. Shane made reference to it in one of the reviews (above)-not sure which. Having watched it, can see why Made of Stone might end up being light on the politics/conflict/misery-no need to go there again. Hope that Gareth Evans guy gets a few soundbites here and there though-his comedy value is off the scale (although expect the band don't find him very funny). The BBC doc is pretty pedestrian but worth watching as a prelude to the main event (enjoyed Noel's observation on Spike Island-'the wind blowing in off whatever f*cking river it is off the Mersey.' That'd be the Mersey then Noel? ;D)
