Totally gutted about Bob Hoskins passing away. He was in some great films and I don't think I would be on my own if I said he was one of the greatest British actors I've had the pleasure of seeing on screen.
I grew up on Who Framed Roger Rabbit and loved his roles in Mona Lisa and Brazil.
A great actor, he will be missed!

I don't normally post on obituaries, but I was very sad to hear this too. A fine actor and one who was very supportive of Shane's work in the early days-and, no doubt, other up and coming talents in the film-making world. I love Darcy-one of my favourite Meadows' heroes. RIP Bob.

Truly sad news. I've been trying to recall the exact details of a story Shane has told in the past about Bob refusing to accept an all expenses paid flight to a film festival (for a screening of 24/7) unless they paid for Shane's flight too. Proper gent! All of the stories around 24/7 with Bob and Shane were pretty amazing. Can't refind too many now. I have a few links on the links page to old interviews, but a couple no longer seem to be online. This interview with Bob is great though: (The site it's on has some annoying pop-ups) www.angelfire.com/celeb/bobhoskins/interviews/twentyfourseven.html

Moved this thread into the Shane Meadows Discussion area just because it seems too important to be down in the "Anything Else" section! Antony Kelly or @photoantony on Twitter just posted this great behind the scenes pic from Twentyfour Seven; "Bob Hoskins having a giggle with boxing trainer Derek on the set of 24/7"

Loved him in Roger Rabbit and 24/7; plus, he was sublimely creepy in Nixon (as J. Edgar Hoover) and Felicia's Journey. RIP Bob.

Proper gent! Dave, this is currently on the BBC News website -tributes: 'SHANE MEADOWS - director, Twenty Four Seven and A Room for Romeo Brass Bob Hoskins is the most generous actor I have worked with. He not only took a huge chance on me when he agreed to star in my first feature film, he taught me so much about the business, how to survive it and how to stay true to yourself. When we travelled to New York together back in the late 90s to promote Twenty Four Seven, the film company had put Bob in first class and me in with the chickens. Bob refused to go unless they upgraded me to first or downgraded him to economy. They upgraded me, thank goodness, but knowing he would have forgone the champers and flambe steak to sit in twerp class with me says it all, really. He was a true gentleman. RIP Bob.' Nice story-I liked him even more after reading it.

Yes such a shame. A feeling of too soon. Bob Hoskins was incredible in The Long Good Friday and 24/7. I've not seen everything he was in but I'm aiming to rectify that ASAP. One of the good guys.
