Return of the chat room!

I have just discovered a different kind of free chat room that I am thinking of using for the site. The idea would be that we could organise a time when a lot of us would be around for a good natter.

In the mean time, please test out the new chat room to see what you think of it. Click on the following link, and a small window should appear in the centre of the page where you can type in a username. The chat room should launch in a new window. It is best to maximise this window so you get a better view (the obligatory ads at the bottom take up a huge percentage of the window when it is not maximised).

(NOTE: The text about java chat rooms etc on the link above is irrelevant old banter referring to an older trial of a different chat room).

The chat room appears to support audio and webcams.. so you may want to test these out too.

If the little 'sign-in' window does not appear when you visit the link above, then your browser probably has scripts disabled (are you at work? naughty!). Instead you can click on the link below the sign in window which reads:
Launch the Userplane Webchat

This will take you to an online webpage where you can sign in.

Obviously the room is open to abuse from people impersonating others, but if we decide to use it properly in the future, we could perhaps have a system whereby we log into this message board to prove we are online (at the bottom on the main message board page it lists who is currently logged in). So if someone is in the chat room and claims to be a particular person, then you could look at who is signed into the message board to check that they are actually online. Makes sense? haha Anyway, that's all for the future.. just give it a test, and you never know there maybe some other people in there ready for a chat.

As you may have seen on the home page of the site, I have at last scheduled a chat for next Sunday (4th September) at 5pm (UK time).

Let's hope that quite a few people turn out for some banter, and let's also hope that the chat room doesn't break down with more than 2 people in it!

I'd like to join in on Sunday 4th but I might be working. Will you make this a regular slot; because I'm v. interested. It will be good to talk to shane meadows fans. I know this is a bit of a longshot but is James Hooton (knighty - 24/7) likely to be in 'This is England". P.S. I'm curious about your picture palace.

No idea about James in This Is England.

Before making the chat a regular thing, we'll see how it goes this Sunday first. I have concerns about how many people the chat room can manage!

Here we go again!

There has been a little blip of interest in getting the chat room going again (look very closely on the This Is England message board and you may spot it).

A good idea, especially as there now seems to be people logged into this forum nearly all the time.

Let's have a vote on a good time and day for a scheduled chat! Any preferences?

well dave i remember our little chats back in the day and i know now there are a few of us on here most of the day so maybe a little informal one midweek and a big weekend get together? Ill always struggle on a weekend due to the illness but i do have internet at home now so if i can see ill be there.

Ah, I remember the few organised chats we had. How could I forget all those stories, etc.

Sunday and Thursday evenings are out for me - pretty much any other evening is fine (though Fri and Sat may not be great). I suggest perhaps trying one daytime and one evening session?

Perhaps Wednesdays at 6pm for the evening session (or later)?

Actually, having just had another look at the chat room, is there a better free one available now? Just a thought.

Perhaps have an IRC channel as well, as some of us will have mIRC (or suchlike) on at some time of the day/week.
