Just finished watching 'Midnight Movies' a documentary feature telling the story of 6 cult movies that created and benefited from midnight cinema showings in the US. The movies were El Topo, Night Of The Living Dead, Pink Flamingos, Rocky Horror Picture Show, The Harder They Come and Eraserhead. I really enjoyed this documentary as i have been a fan of most of these movies (never actually seen El Topo or Eraserhead) for many years especially Rocky Horror for which i have dressed up on many an occasion and Pink Flamingos because of an curious interest in Divine. This film contains candid interviews with all the major people involved including David Lynch and lots of footage from all of the films. I recently started a thread on Jodorowsky questioning if i should buy his films this documentary gave me the answer.... YES as soon as i can! Highly recommended if you enjoy movie docs like Easy Riders Raging Bulls, Kid Stays In The Picture and Decade Under The Influence. On the second DVD you get full NOTLD and Reefer Madness movies as extras! I'm definitely up for seeing this, along with GOING TO PIECES - a documentary about slasher flicks. Those other documentaries you mention are all quality, Lee - though EASY RIDERS was not a patch on the book. I reckon Biskind upset a lot of people when he wrote the books, thus they probably refused to be interviewed for the doc. Thanks for the tip Comp ive just found GOING TO PIECES on amazon for £8.65! I love these type of documentaries although ive just read that Argento doesnt get much/any kind of mention which is a shame. Do you know of anymore feature Docs worth hunting out?

I saw Sunshine yesterday. I thought it was absolutely amazing! I never expect any less of Danny Boyle. Its a superbly original sci-fi film and i loved every second. What exactly is wrong with the last 5 mins?! I thought the ending was excellent. *SPOILERS The snow/stone henge shot was superb i thought. end spoilers* Just been to see SUNSHINE - I really liked it, to a point. There's definitely an awkwardly-placed plot develpoment that ruins the final act. I had a similar issue with 28 DAYS LATER, too. It seems Boyle and Garland set out to re-invent a genre, before sucumbing to its conventions. Still, there's a lot to like about SUNSHINE, gripes aside. SPOILER!I thought it was Sydney Opera House, Ryd? Yeah i have to agree with this i watched Sunshine a couple of weeks ago an advance screening and really felt let down by the final 30 minutes or so. I was enjoying it then it became very disappointing and predictable so much so i didnt even bother posting on the thread i so excitably started when i knew i was going to see it.

Phew thought i might have been the only one! Watched 'The Host' today a highly entertaining Korean monster movie with a big dose of comedy and the usual Korean quirkiness. Im not usually a big fan of anything with CGI monsters and it took me a while to get used to it. I definitely recommend it though.
Next up is 'Welcome to Dongmakgol' anyone seen this yet?

Brotherhood (Taegukgi) - I'd been meaning to watch this for a very long time as im a big fan of Korean cinema for some reason i never got round to it. So last night with the house to myself i sat down to watch it.... What an amazing film the 2hr 40 running time was gone in a flash and by the end i was annoyed id never made the effort before. Some have/will compared it to Saving Private Ryan but for me it was much better and it evoked so much more emotion.

Smokin Aces - Disappointing but not as bad as some of the reviews claimed, not a patch on Narc i hope this isnt the end of the line for Joe Carnahan he has alot of projects in pre-production it'd be a shame if they were scrapped/limited as a result of this blip.

Watched The Departed last night and i kind of feel it has been tainted for me by the fact that i am a huge fan of Infernal Affairs which i saw on its UK cinema release and many many times since on DVD. While i thought it was a very good well made well acted film i just didnt feel the same kind tension and involvement with the two main characters.

Watched Rocky Balboa last night and really enjoyed it. I never got round to watching V and to be honest i dont think i ever will. Rocky Balboa is a very fitting end to this series of movies.... i wonder if ill be saying the same about the new Rambo.

Nightwatch is one of those films that really splits opinion. I really liked it and thought they put much bigger budget hollywood movies to shame. I saw Daywatch about 5 months ago and while i wish id re-watched NW before hand because it can be kinda confusing with so many characters. I found it to be a really good film if slightly different than NW it again has some wow FX moments even though its done on the cheap it is also very funny. Im looking forward to the UK release so i can see it with spot on subs instead of sketchy broken Russian/English translation.

Just watched Hated a 1994 documentary film about G.G. Allin the notorious punk icon. I first became aware of Allin at the time of his death in 1993 but only recently discovered this doc made by Todd Phillips who went on to make Road Trip and Old School. This doc is not for the feint hearted as it shows Allins extreme on stage behavoir but if you can get past these acts its a fascinating look at this unusual punk singer/performance artist. Be warned though not for anyone easily offended!
