Apparently a 27%er is defined as a traditionally supporting actor who makes the films they're in seem at least 27% better just by them being in it. The likes of William H Macy, Ed Harris, Alan Arkin and John C Reilly etc. Mines Paul Giamatti although he's tending to get more lead roles now I think he's brilliant in everything he does especially Pig Vomit in Private Parts.

Not sure if Defoe would rank as a regular 'supporting actor', but he was in Life Aquatic and imho completely stole the film. Life Aquatic has received some negative comment-not as good as previous Anderson films etc. Personally, I loved it, but it would have lost something if Defoe had not played Klaus so brilliantly.

Mine would be a toss-up between Giamatti and Oliver Platt (of Bulworth and A Time To Kill).

Timothy Spall.
And (but this is just in my opinion) Ben Wishaw.

Timothy Spall. And (but this is just in my opinion) Ben Wishaw. Tim spall is the mutts nuts, Ive loved him since he was Barry in Auf Pet (think he just edges Oz as the best character best British TV shoe ever!) *Edit* Im not correcting that!

He's good -- I've especially liked him in stuff he's done with Mike Leigh. ( Life Is Sweet is my favorite.) Nobody's mentioned Philip Seymour Hoffman yet, but he's another one I like.

Hell yeah, PSH is amazing. He's more of a headliner these days though, since Capote.
