There is a monthly DVD industry magazine called RRP which i read every month today i picked up the most recent issue flicked through it and suddenly stopped at an article about Ken Russells 'Devils' at the top of the page was a face i recognised our very own Companero (Paul). Is this a regular thing Comp or a one off? Do you have a copy you can post on the site? and most importantly do you have any info on the much anticipated 'Devils' DVD?

Busted! Haha. I used to write for RRP fairly regularly up until a couple of years ago; had a regular column where I discussed popular VHS tapes on eBay. The new piece is part of a semi-regular series – I'll probably do one every couple of months, as the topic of unreleased films is a subject that is very close to my heart.
Re: THE DEVILS, I don't know. Toby at RRP passed my article on to someone at Warner Home Video and he said that he would be stating a case for its release. That said, Warner UK seem to be led by whatever Warner US release and some say that THE DEVILS would still stir a lot of controversy in the States from the religious Right. It's a classic film but I don't think Warner can be bothered to suffer the [potential] backlash if they released it, sadly.

I don't know much about The Devils, but I do know that if you are trying to get it released, then you need to get Mark Kermode on board. I think he would be interested in helping out on that score.

There was a rumour circulating a couple of years ago that Ken Russell and Mark Kermode had recorded an audio commentary - these whisperings surfaced around the time that the uncut version of the film was shown at the NFT. Salv, the only way the film can be seen is via the "fan disc" that is sometimes flogged on eBay; this comprises the print taken from the 1997 widescreen VHS, with the uncut scenes (taken from Mark Kermode's 'Hell On Earth' documentary) re-inserted. Not seen this though - wanted to hold out for a legit release.

I really cannot bring myself to put dough in the pockets of the eBay pirates and will always wait, myself.

I remember the VHS articles you had top tens of oop VHS and the prices they went for on ebay and talked about long forgotten titles, im sure my Oldboy UE got a mention in the DVD top ten when i ebayed it. I love the freebies section in RRP you lot (proper industry peeps) must get loads of stuff from companies pimping their films. Keep up the good work.

Cheers, mate.
Used to get loads of freebies and invites when I was a buyer, but don't get many these days...
The Freebies page and 'Me and My Collection' are the first articles I look at when I get the new copy through - did you see my mate Marc Morris' piece a couple of issues back? He's got the biggest collection I have ever seen!

We should definitely start a 'Me and My Collection' thread on here, great idea - I'll come up with some similar questions and kick off, if you like. I did mine for RRP in late 2005. Marc Morris moderates the ABUK forums - his RRP 'Collection' piece was amazing - he owns over 8000 films on VHS and DVD(!)
