Anyone else been using Spotify? Spotify is a little bit of free software you download from www.spotify.comIt looks a bit like iTunes, and what it does is let you listen to most of the music ever released on your computer for free! The music streams, you can't download it. It's great to have playing on your computer while you're working. You can build playlists, listen to 'radio stations' of your own design (based on genres and eras). It's good stuff... and free... and legit because it is the music industries attempt to get people to ease off the dodgy downloads. The free version does feature adverts... but from my experience, they are very infrequent and are usually little ads for new music. You just have to sign up and download the tiny bit of software. Easy.

No takers? I can't sit at a computer now without firing this lovely Spotify up! Ned's Atomic Dustbin on tap!
I've made a Meadows Movie Tracks playlist for Spotify. It features all the music from Shane's films that I could find. So, now you can visit the site with this mood setting playlist shuffling in the background.
If you have installed Spotify, you should be able to click the link below and it will be added to your list of playlists!

I won't let this drop! Someone must have tried it!?
You're all missing out on a quality piece of free musical fun!
Think of any band you want to listen to.... and you will find it (errr 90% of the time). It's outrageously good for free.... I can't see how anyone can pass it up. Silly billies!

Weren't these the lot that got hacked last month?
I would give it a go but i've re-discovered my own CD collection via a program called DJay! (Owing to having to spend the last 7 months as 2nd fiddle DJ)
What's it like at doing the "You might also like..." thing or "people who listened to this also listened to..."
Does it give you the same but different or does it test you?
Do you download the app for each machine you use?

Hmm found a misssion. If either can dredge up the old "Dope on Plastic" or was it "Nightmares on Wax"? mixes then we're in business. I had tapes i'd copied and borrowed 6-10 generations from original that got warmer and Doper as they were passed around! Stoners are never the best catalogers so if the tapes had a label it would be "Dope 3" or "Wax 2". I have one that's just labeled "Weekend Warm Up".... and it isn't.

Last FM is a website, so it's far more slow and clunky than Spotify which is a standalone bit of software. Also, you may turn up more results on LastFM, but you are often fobbed off with 30 second clips! On Spotify, if you can find it, it's the whole track. Yes, I think Spotify was hacked at the beginning of the year. There's a little bit of Nightmares on Wax on Spotify... some 2008 album and som Gloria Gaynor mixes. haha. Yes, you do have to have the tiny Spotify app installed on each computer you want to use it on... but you can log in to them all with one account. Spotify doesn't cheekily say "If you like this, you'll love this!" or anything similar, it just says "Similar artists". But are they? Only you can decide! If someone has Spotify, can they check to see if that Meadows track list link works in one of my earlier posts please!

Not entirely. With Lastfm you download a tiny bit of sotware that works with your itunes. So when you listen to songs, they scrobble on your lastfm account.
You can also use this to listen to your own radio station, based on selected artists. And the iPod touch/phone app is brilliant, connected to wifi. I havent encountered a 30sec clip yet.
I'll have a look at Spotify though.

Scrobble? Sounds like witchcraft... Last FM lose so far owing to only having a single track called Dope on Plastic and denying all knowledge of the actual compilations.
It's going to be a mission isn't it?
Almost wondering if it's worth going round the more techie / anal retentive of the bunch and physically recording them.
What was your self generated radio station like?

They can be based around a single artist which means the radio station plays the chosen artist and similar artists, or you can create a radio station based on decades and/or genres. Maybe it's just the LastFM site then with regards to 30 second clips... searched for Fantomas and Nightmares on Wax on it earlier... plenty (if not all) of the artists releases were listed, but they were all 30 second clips.

Both excellent. Thanks again Dave!
